Odd Noise

I noticed this noise the other day after I started the car put it into drive and after I rolled acouple of feet I heard this "boing" from under the car. It has done it since then Im not sure about every time but most time Its right after I put it in gear and it doesn't happen again until next time I drive. Is this some kind of ABS or systems check? Or do I need to head to the dealership?

Sounds like ABS self-check. Pretty well covered in the owner`s manual.

Petermarks, I consistently hear the same sound--kind of like someone twanged a spring. The owner's manual describes the ABS self-check as possibly sounding like a clunk noise with possible pulsation in the brake pedal. This doesn't seem like what I'm experiencing. I've noticed that it coincides with me using the clutch for the first time. Usually I put the car in reverse, back out of my parking place, put the car in 1st and start to drive. Then the springing noise is heard once with nothing afterwards until I start the car again. Doesn't sound like anything serious, but I was wondering about this noise too.

Betcha it IS the self-check tho. I get the same thing - more of a boing than a clunk. Same spot in the street everyday as I leave the drive.

Clunk/crunch

It sounds like you just ran over a coffee can.

If it only happens once every drive cycle, and happens when you first reach 5 mph after starting, it IS the ABS self test.

7mph is ABS self check

When ever you hear the noise if the speed is ~7mph then it is self check of ABS

I am getting the same noise, it sounds like a spring and then some clicking. I get it when I start the car and then put it in drive. It happens a few seconds after the car is in drive. I hope you guys are right about this and it isnt a big problem. The more people that respond to this thread the better I will feel so if this happens to you also then post it in this thread.

I sure am happy this is normal because that's what I've been telling myself for the last 6mths. I mean every day at 7:30am at the same spot on the road!
