At what mileage did you change your oil for the first time? Is there a reason to change it earlier than recommened?

1st oil change
I've heard it's best to 1st change it @ around 1K miles. Supposedly, there could still be small metal particles in the engine (from manufacturing), and better to get them out at 1K rather than at 3K or 5K. Changing the oil this early will prevent any minor internal damage they could possibly occur (think it's more of a precaution/rule of thumb)...never heard of anything proven. After all....it won't set you back much $$$. That's my $0.02.

but wouldn't any metal shaving (if any) be trapped by the oil filter? isn't that what its supposed to do?

I usually do mine at about 1k miles along with the filter. Not all particles are trapped by the filter.

As a precautionary measure, I did mine at 800 miles w/ a new filter as well. I also did a transmission and rear differential flush at 1200 miles. The rear flush was surprisingly dirty [lots of metal chips], so I would recommend that to you as well.

I change my oil at 250 miles, 800 miles and then again at 3,000 miles and every 3,000 miles after that.

Im guessing YOU did the differential right? Cuz when I asked infiniti they said that it would cost over 100 for JUST the differential.
