RichK...you have a picture of your 18 inch on your X (haha...this sounds hilarious when I was typing this). I meant do you have a picture of your 18 inch wheels on your G35x. Does it close the tire/fender gap a bit?

Pictures are crappy Car Domain pics, but you can get the idea. I bought the wheels for my now traded-in 2003 Maxima SE. I had better pics, but lost them due to a hard drive issue on my laptop.

Did you lower the car? If you didn't it seems like the lower profile 18 inch lowered lessen the fender/tire gap by alot. How is that possible?

I think the fender gap is the same. It just seems less because of the rims. I want to lower it, but there are no shocks available for the X yet. Handling with the 18s is amazing. About 100% better than the stock 17" Goodyears.

I agree with RichK ... My X handles so much better with the 18" and Pilot Sports. Much better than the turanza's my X came with.

As to why I wanted a AWD ... I'm in the SF Bay Area, and that means I'm also close to the Sierras (Tahoe and all of the local resorts). I usually head up there to play during the Fall and Winter ... and I-80, Highway 50, as well as all of the back roads in the mountains get quite a bit of snow. I used to drive 4WD and AWD (4Runner, Murano). But since I really wanted a G, and I didn't want to have to leave it behind during the Winter, I thought that the G35x would be the best of all worlds.

I agree that snow tires are also a must ... I'll see how things play out later this year before I decide on that. Plus here in California, even with 4WD or AWD, there are times during the Winter when the CHP mandates chains as well. So I'll be keeping a set in the trunk for when that happens too.
That is exactly why I bought my X, I live in Menlo Park.
Trips to Tahoe rock with the X- She's a mountain goat.
And this car is significantly quicker than the Quattro I was about to buy.

FYI- My car came with EL42s and I ditched them within the first week. Those tires are weak, and America's Tire gave me a credit for the new EL42s. I installed 235/50 XGTV4s. Much better everthing . They do look a bit too meaty, but they ride awesome and offer a great compromise.

Mine (RWD) came with the Turanza EL42's. They're okay for commuting to work, but not a performance tire. After wearing them down, I put on some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in 225/55R17. The grip was amazing, for the 9000 miles they lasted (autocross doesn't do good things for treadwear). They're now available in 235/50R17. Now I've put on some Kumho ECSTA ASX in 235/50R17. Too early to tell how they really handle, but they've got a decent grip, considering they're all seasons instead of summer tires like the GS-D3's.

Much better selection of tires in 235/50R17 (which fits the stock rim and doesn't mess with your speedometer). If you've got the 17x7's, that is.
