Buying a G35x soon: What kind of deal can I get?
Buying a G35x soon: What kind of deal can I get?
I am looking at a 2005 G35x with premium package C. The sticker is around $36,000. Edmunds lists the invoice at $33,800 and "true market value" is $35,100. This seems high to me. I was thinking more along the lines of 32-33 for the car but maybe I was being optimistic. Let me know what kind of deals you all have gotten (be sure to list options!) so I can figure out what I can get this car for. Thanks a lot for the help!
The closest you can get to invoice, the better deal you're getting.
When I go my G, the dealer gave it to be below invoice because he gave me a ficticious "Trade-in" of $2500 for no trade in! It was a new dealership, so I had the advantage of these guys trying to quickly get their volume up.
Walk in with the print out from Edmunds. Write down what price you'll accept. Give it to them, then walk out (unless they immediately say yes). Buy the time you get in your car & start to drive out, you'll have a deal.
They'll know that you'll shop around to other (reasonable) nearby dealers and they KNOW what the other dealers are letting their cars go for. They won't lose a deal for a $100 or so. However, they also know if your asking is too low, none will make the deal.
I shopped at 6 BMW dealers for a 2005 325 and ALL were within $50 of each other (on a $36,000 car) for their absolutley best deal. But if you can find a very hungry dealer (like I did), they'll all have the same deal.

Sounds like you got a great deal. I see the invoice price at edmunds but it seems high to me. I've been told that price minus 3% dealer holdback may be a more true invoice number. So a good focus point for the car seems to be $33,000. But, I would like to hear what kind of deals people have actually gotten.

Well we got the car. Had to go through typical dealer harassment to get a decent deal but in the end we won, haha. Final price was $34,100+ taxes/tags. Invoice was $33,700 so we got $400 over. It's noice, I really love the intelligent key!

Congrats on your new G! It is a great car (as the rest of us here will surely attest to) & I'm sure you're gonna have tons of fun in the years to come!
Although you've already bought it, I'd still like to share my 2cents on the subject of buying & prices...
In response to JimG35's post...I'd simply like to add that one has to keep in mind when buying ANY car (not just G35) that if its currently the "hot thing on the market"...ask yourself WHY they should give you a discount?
It's common knowledge that nowadays, anyone can go on the internet & find out the invoice price of a car. But the thing is, if the dealer you go to is having no problem selling at full-sticker....then why should they give YOU a discount? Its just business...they're not ripping people off...its simply supply & demand.
I just wanted to add that because I am a car salesperson...for an Infiniti dealership in CA...and it really saddens me to hear people saying "just walk in there & offer them this...then walk out, wait 'til they come running & accept your offer".
Look guys, is it wrong for a dealership to MAKE MONEY on you? Of course NOT...thats what EVERY business does...no matter what industry it is...how else do they pay the people that work there? Am I right?
As for discounts...again, its really just a matter of supply & demand. The more popular a car is, the higher you should expect to have to pay.
Buying your dream car should be one of the happiest experiences one goes through. I won't deny that there are tons of pushy, obnoxious "car salesmen" out there...but please remember that most are not that way. So, the next time you go shopping for another car...just do your research & be realistic about what kind of $$$ you'll be paying. Its not a "I lose & you win...you lose & I win" battle situation. You just want to buy a car & they just want to make a living. We CAN all just get along...ok?
Congrats & enjoy the ride! I just got mine 2 weeks ago & lovin every mile!

I got my 05 X for $34,750. It has splash guards, trunk mat, and Premium C which includes a ton of stuff. I think I did pretty well. Oh, I also opted for the 2.9% financing. Made it hard to resist. So far, the car has been awesome. Like it more every day.
Last week I leased a '05 G35x, premium C, rosewood, trunk mats, satellite for $419/mo. 39 mos, 12k miles/yr. Out the door payment of 1st mos lease pmt, $550 bank fee + $109 docs/registration. Based on a price of $33,700 with residual value at lease end of $22,744. Car was on the dealer's lot.
