Heavy Steering in a G35x

For the past few months, my steering has become significantly heavier. It is so heavy that it it makes slow speed manuvering a workout. I did hit a big pothole, but nothing was found to be damaged. I have had it at the dealer and they cannot find anything wrong. Has anyone else had this problem? I do not know if it is because of the pothole or something else and I cannot seem to find an answer.

Thank you.

Are you sure it's the car?
Try another X and see how that compares to yours.

I have never had that problem Dr. and I have never heard my wife complain, as a matter of fact she has commented how much easier it is to do tight maneuvering as compared to our last 2 Maximas.

No problems with mine. Are your tires underinflated? If not, check the power steering-?slipping belt? low fluid? Probably a bunch of other causes I don't know about.

GEE35X, sorry this is not related to the post. Just curious since you have a 2005 X also but with Z-tube. Did you notice any sound difference with the Z-tube vs the stock tube? Also, how long did it take you to install that?

Mine is the same as yours.
You really can't just turn the wheel with your palm. It does feel heavier than some other cars that are just RWD.
Sometimes it feels like if you need to make a really sharp turn, it may get a little harder the further you turn.

It also might be to what kind of steering the G uses. I can't find specifics but I think it is rack and pinion.

Mike....Definitely a sound difference with the Z-tube. If you are in town and put your foot in it a bit , everyone notices, there is a very noticable growl. Sounds great . I took my time and it only took 20 minutes, very easy to do, and there is great instructions on the DIY section. Pm me if you have any more questions.

utrain and jackal

That is exactly how mine is. I have to put some muscle into it. Even at high or low speeds, there is a really heavy feeling to it. My son noticed the problem. He described it as being "overboosted".

Gee35x,

The reason I asked is some said you need to do it at WOT to hear the difference. So a slight tap even at like 1500, 2000 rpm and you feel the difference in engine sound? I wanted a little more growl/throaty sound and if Z-tube can do it then sure why not. I think my X is way too quiet unless I have windows rolled down and rpm up to 4000+ rpm at NIGHT TIME. If the Z-tube improves the sound I'll definitely get it just for that. Another thing is I am no mechanic when it comes to cars. Anything I can actually risking breaking or ripping off by accident while installing the Z-tube?

Sorry, I didn't see the PM part. I just PM you. Didn't want to start a different thread within a thread. Thanks.
