I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about a grinding noise that I hear as soon as I start the car from time to time. I also have heard a similar sound within about 10 seconds of driving. Does anyone else hear this from time to time? Is this the timing chain rasp someone spoke of before?

Well this has been helpful.....I notice that grinding sound everytime I drive off after the car is parked. Thought it was just my car but I guess it's normal. Just never had a car where I could hear the ABS self test. Thanks for clearing my worries...

I agree. The self test took me by surprise at first. Since my last 5 cars had ABS, none of them did that. Neither does my 04 Armada. Guess it's a G thing.

I think it happens at 7mph and it sounds really loud if you happen to hit the brakes at the same time.

just bought a new (used) car w/AT on saturday and noticed that sound this morning. drove it with the service mgr this morning, and he told me it was the ABS self test. it only happens when you put the car in Drive after you first start it, then never again. seems weird that the car has to be in drive for it to test the brakes, but whatever. i hope that's all it is, but i never hear it while driving. it's not a pretty sounding grind, but it's supposed to be normal.
