05 Back Fire!

Hey guys I got my 05 Sedan and have 559 miles on my car and i just love the back fire when I rev it up. Anyone know why it sounds so sexy? You guys think the sound will get better when i have more miles? It is not as fast as it should be, but i guess its cuz of the miles?????

thanks

Nick

Thumbs up

The sound of 05 6MT sedan is nice indeed. My previous ride is a 01 SLK320, also 6MT. That car sings when push hard. My G35 is as good or even better sounding. Mine has 7000 miles so far and it revs and sounds even better now. It does not feel faster than day one, but it is just getting smoother and more willing to rev. I think the 298HP VQ engine really shines in the department of refinement.

i agree... i hope you don't really mean that your car is "back-firing". That doesn't sound good at all. I would take that SOB back to the dealer immediately. Something is fugged up!

I feel sorry for the guy who eventually buys that car from you. How high are you revving it-remember there is a break in period of 1200 miles on these cars. A backfire is not normal and definitely not sexy.

For a really sweet backfire sound I like to drill one or two small holes in each exhaust valve. I swear it sounds like I'm driving a V8 with open headers. - and a lot of smoke. - and no power.

there is no fire coming out of ur exhaust.... its just releasing some backpressure.

Lay off the guy, I'm sure he means the "gurgle" when it's coming down from revs. He's just as excited as you guys were when you got yours - so who cares how he describes what he likes about it.

And I've seen some fanatical adherence to this 1200mi break in period on this forum. If you want to wait I'm sure nobody cares, but I wouldn't deprive yourselves of enjoying your new ride any longer than you have to - especially considering what we paid for them. It's surprising since I think less than 20% of owners follow the break-in as per the manual. I would think 500mi of mixed driving is plenty for the parts to settle. Plus, revving the thing in neutral as this guy says he did isn't nearly as hard on it as dropping the clutch and tearing thru 1/4mi runs. These motors are the most bullet proof components on these cars, and will be the last thing to break regardless of 500mi or 1200mi break-in. You rarely see a modern engine that burns oil or smokes with age. Like most of you here - I've had several cars and kept some for many miles...going all the way back to a datsun 280z. I've never had motor issues. But I've replaced many alternators, starters, master cylinders, air conditioning systems, electrical units, water pumps, heater coils, etc...

You didn't break them in properly.

a CAI or a Z-tube or a K&N drop in can be put in whenever you want. Mileage is not a factor. You can put it in right now.
