I just installed a ztube this afternoon on my 05 sedan AT. Drove by Grubbs and picked it up for $85 then went home and put it on in about 10min (great DIY on here). I didn't know what sound all these intakes would make since i've never been in a foreign car with after market bolt-ons. I've been out for a couple drives and the best i can describe it is that "moaning" sound old V8's made when the two extra bbl's opened on a 4bbl carbeurator. The diff is these smaller motors wind out a little farther.

Will a KN panel filter add to this sound or just add a little power if any..thanks?

Its funny, all the old timers that have been around a while seem to have the z-tube, and stock airboxes with K/N. The newbies all seem to want the CAI and "Hi-Flow" airboxes. Its all good, they have to learn their own way. Whats a couple hundred bucks. Steve Millen has to make a living too ya know.

u are just sucking in more dust, not air. CAI has to be the dumbest thing out in the market, but i guess ricer like u would pay for it

Hyde, first does Z tube really give 5rwhp? damn thats alot just for a tube. is that the only difference between the Z and G35 hp differences. not the 298 hp, but the 280 vs 287? also, i truly hate you for ordering a Carrera S. You will never go back to another car. 0-60 in the mid 4's and handling beyond belief. Did you know that when going through a corner, if the car feels that your pushing it to its limits, it wil give the outer tire more acceleration than the inner, thus making your handling well 100000 times better. Best looking car in my opinion, fav porsche and amazing bang for the buck. cant wait for the turbo, sorry for the thread hi-jack

i have the nismo v2 and i love it, sounds real good. Didn't see much of a difference, but the intake inconjunction with the AAM spacer it's a bit quicker and believe it or not it's improve my gas mileage.

Here's one old timer that's an exception to your rule/assumption and don't think I'm alone.

I ran the Stock Aircase/K&N Filter from July 24, 2002 to August 29, 2003. Since that date I've run an as built or modified Stillen CAI except for some documented tests.

We've tested, retested and posted some of our Stock Aircase/K&N Filter vs. CAI results here on G35Driver. (A search should prove helpful for those who are curious.) While many others have different opinions, I'm real happy with my CAI... and no, I didn't notice, nor did any of my tests reveal, a loss of low end power with my car's current modifications. Of course your test results may vary.

CAI are refer as those stupid ones that put the air filter in the bumper.

fact is. the stock airbox is already a cold air intake.

I have a 2003 G35 Sedan with the Stillen CAI and Z-tube.

Easy installation and runs great. Engine make a nice roar over 3000K.

Also have this installed in my FX35 which sounds even better.

Looks to have gotten more power and somehow better gas milage

the z tube and the K&N is the way to go
CAI doesnt really make that much of a difference, cos' the stock is already a CAI which is thru the front of the hood instead of under the bumper

SoCalTed & nuttyprof,

I plead guilty to re-posting to same ol' stuff. It was a momentary relapse caused by sweeping generalizations!

K&N + Z tube

Go with K&N + Z tube. Cheaper, bout the same (minimal) hp gain, great sound. If you need the metallic look of the CAIs out there...Reynolds Wrap it !
