Strut FYI

Took G to dealer for service on TUE. Had loud rear suspension squeak every time you hit uneven pavement. Sounded like a '77 Ford F150. It was so obvious(even w/windows up) that I did not ride with the tech.....I save that for last option. Serv. rep. calls WED.--car is done--Is the squeak gone?--Well--they torqued the rear seat nut!!! . I picked the car up and drove home--squeak still there. I get home and see numerous light-med. scratches & oil stains on fender-- Was it from the oilchange, leaning on fender?? I asked for a "NO WASH," by the way. Now I am pissed .

I call serv. rep.--tell him car is going back--I am not paying for loaner gas, u will hand wash car and hand wax front fenders, I want free oil change next time, and 2-3 gallons of gas on my car and I DEMAND the loud squeak be fixed. They ok my demands which include free oilchange($36 or so) and I ride with tech. Thu. morning-he gets out and listens as I drive over bump and he hears it and says they WILL find problem.

I get a call back today (THU.)--Right Rear strut is blown out!!! Yet, they sent me home saying nothing was wrong the day b4 Manager got involved and part is being overnighted--If It doesn't arrive FRI.--I have to p/up car SAT.

Hope this helps anyone with this metal to metal-sounding squeak. Be firm with these guys. Last service--I had to go TWICE for them to fix my blown out a/c compressor that was making LOUD noise.
Only 27K miles on car--Strut is out? Car is stock and driven with care--I wonder if my other struts will last to 100Kmi?? Is there a test to see if other struts are still good? I guess I will listen for the "77 Ford F150"--that old Sanford and Son rickety suspension squeak type thing going on.......http://www.timvp.com/sanford.html

Surely sucks...

Damn brah. Sorry you had to deal with this - it's always a pain to have to fight to get what you've paid for - in this case good service.

Did the service manager (or anyone) apologize for their carelessness? That's the one thing that gets me - they can run you to h3ll and back making you look stupid, but when it turns out that they were wrong do they come back and apologize for doubting you? Not usually.

Let us know how it comes out and thanks for the info. It's locked away in my tiny little brain for future reference.

i have clanking noise from my rear suspension when going over uneven road too. First time, they retorqued some nuts/bolts. Didn't work. Second time, they said the problem was the connecting rod and they ordered the part. Third time I went there they installed it. Didn't solve the problem. Fourth time I went there, it was raining and so they said they couldn't hear anything.

You know what.. next time I am going to tell the service rep that if I can't get a tech to ride with him, I'll never return to them.

The strut did not make it in for today(FRI). If it comes in for SAT., I will get the car then--they did say "sorry for the inconvenience," and I got a coupon for a free oilchange($36 or so), and they are forgiving my loaner gas and putting some gas into my car, hand waxing fender etc. However, they do look at you like you are a troublemaker when they either can't hear/see the problem or they choose not to hear/see the problem. Hopefully, SAT. I will have a non squeaky strut with a clean car with smooth hand waxed fenders......keep you posted.

Finally got the car back today--all is good. Yes TODAY. The part they ordered for Sat. was damaged. Had to re-order--did not arrive until Mon. and today (TUE) I get the car. No squeak, no scratches, free oil change, and gas. Oh and the dealer is west houston.
