Question Windshield issue

I had my hood repainted and when I picked up the car I noticed some overspray on the windshield. After I cleaned the windshield with some gasoline, and then some Mothers cleaner/polish, I got all the visible overspray off. But now when the car heads towards the sun, it looks like there are a million little specs across the windshield! Could this be overspray still that can't be seen from the outside of the car? Or did I damage the glass somehow?

You cleaned your windshield with gasoline?

I'd mix up some extra sudsy suds and claybar the heck out of the glass, then rinse well and wipe it down with a clean MF. If that doesn't clean it, it likely can't be cleaned - especially after the chemical bath you've already administered.

No. I don't think you did any damage with the gas - I just wouldn't use gasoline to clean my windshield or any other cosmetic part of my car. Too harsh of a chemical for me. In this case claybar would clean it just as well. If I had to use a solvent I'd start mild and work toward the harsher alternatives. A good cleaner/wax will remove overspray from glass. It'll usually clean it from paint as well - depending on how long it's been on there.

Gasoline could be too rough on the rubber and plastic trim if you aren't careful with it, but I'm sure you were.

Just personal preference - nothing more.
