Yokohama AVS ES100 review incl. pics
My wife's '02 G20 Sport hit 32,000 miles and the OE Bridgestone Potenzas (205/50VR16) were down to about 1/8". Time to replace them. I looked at several different makes and models, but finally settled on the Yokohama AVS ES100. This is a summer-only tire with an aggressive tread design (see photos below; the G35 wheel got slipped in there because I've fallen deeply in love with its style and must show it off every chance I get). Living in Dallas, buying all-season-rated M+S tires is not a priority. I stuck with the stock tire size, which includes a W speed rating that the little G20 will never, ever, ever challenge.
We've had the tires several days and are quite pleased with them. The AVS includes a lip protector that the Potenzas didn't have, a big plus with the 205-section tire sitting on a relatively wide 7-inch stock rim. They're quieter than I ever remember the Potenzas being, although that's a subjective judgment that could very well be off base. They grip like hell in the dry and refuse to roll over and squeal; a few 35-mph sweepers in my area produced a progressive, smooth understeer without so much as a chirp of protest. They definitely ride better than the stock Potenzas, but again that may have more to do with the age of the old tires.
The AVS ES100 includes a relatively high (for a summer performance tire) treadwear rating of 280. The old Potenzas were rated at 160, a tick above my G35's 140-rated Turanzas. My understanding is that treadwear ratings are only compable across a single manufacturer, so don't do the fuzzy math and expect the Yokos to touch 55K miles.
If I still own the G35 when the stock Bridgestones go down, I'll look seriously at replacing them with a slightly wider off-stock AVS ES100 sized at 245/45WR18, currently sold at The Tire Rack for $170 each. (Yokohama doesn't produce this tire in a 235/45R18.) I've owned several sets of Yokohamas over the years, and they've uniformly been excellent tires. The AVS ES100 doesn't look like it'll disappoint either.

The tires are a great tire at the beginning of their life span. But after they start to wear a bit they come extremly noisy. I know a few people who have had them and they won't buy them again due to this. I think they said around 15k they started to become crappy.

I just put the Avon M Tech 550 A/S on my 2004 TL 6-Speed (after 15k) and are GREAT tires.
I will put these on my G35 when the OEM’s wear out.

Otherwise a good tire.
They are a great value for a sticky, ultra high performance tire but like everyone said, they will get noisy in the latter part of it's life. I've had them for about 2,800 miles now and one track day. So far great tires but I noticed on the track they may not be as sticky as the OEM Goodyear GSD's that I tracked with before. My buddy with a 2nd Gen Eclipse GST got two track days and around 20k miles on these tires. I expect something similar. And BTW, this should be moved to the Wheels/Brakes/Tires/Suspension forum.

The worst midlife-noise tires I've owned were the older Dunlop SP Sport D60A2s I put on my Sentra SE-R. Twice. (I don't learn lessons well.) The first set got horribly noisy after about 10K miles, so I swapped them for a second set, thinking the noise was a fluke. It wasn't. Less than 8K miles went by and they started howling/rumbling/whirring/thunking over any and every type of tarmac. I went to a set of Yokohama Avid H4s after that and never looked back.
I'm still squeamish about Dunlops to this day.
BTW, the Avon 550s mentioned by 2004G35AUTO look interesting come replacement time for the G35. I haven't seen a bad thing posted about them anywhere.

All of these Yokos have been on the same car (an Accord lowered an inch with an Eiback Pro-Kit and using Koni shocks):
- A509 (3 or 4 sets)
- AVS Intermediate (2 sets)
- AVS ES100 (1 set)
Another note, these were all very sticky tires and wore quickly but since they were fairly inexpensive, in the size I needed, it wasn't a concern of mine.
