DVD Movies on the Nav?
Re: DVD Movies on the Nav?
I just got my car, haven't even read the manual, but when I showed a friend where the NAV resides, that was the first thing he asked...the manual probably tells us, but if anyone knows off the top of their head please fill us in!

Re: DVD Movies on the Nav?
Don't bother trying- doesn't work (also you might be in deep sh*t if something goes wrong with your nav and they find out-- they can run a systems check). Read the Tech and Mods board for some interesting ways people have found to add their own RGB inputs to the nav screen. As of yet, there is no plug-and-play option, but I don't see it too terribly far down the road with the rate at which people are working on it.

Re: DVD Movies on the Nav?
Actually it is possible. You can either do it the pain in the butt (but less expensive) way, by following these instructions. Or you can buy a box called the Nav-TVTuner and just hook up one wire, and the rest is plug and play. I've been in touch with the guy who wrote the do-it-yourself instructions, as well as the guy who makes the boxes, and both said that their systems don't mess with the navigation at all and that the voice prompts and everything will still occur in the background. Only problem is since power to the switched 12 volts connection is cut while the engine is being started, your dvd playback would shut off if you went from the car off, to turning it on. A way to get around this is to just wire up a switch, and instead of hooking it up to the switched wire, just hook it up to a constant power connection, and when you leave the car flip the switch off so it doesn't run down your battery.
Re: DVD Movies on the Nav?
Just to clarify something about my previous post. All that those 2 mods do is give you composite video inputs and left/right RCA audio inputs, to feed video and sound to the car's stock equipment. They don't let you pop a DVD movie into the navigation dvd player; they require a separate +12 volt dvd player, usually mounted in the glovebox (check dimensions first obviously). The mod box contains, among other things, a composite video-to-RGB converter for the video, and an fm modulator for the audio. The main thing is just that you don't need to use a separate video screen to display the movies.
Re: DVD Movies on the Nav?
Good info- I've been looking for a more "plug-n-play" option, and the AVElectronic one looks pretty good. I've been in contact with a guy in the NJ/Philly area who's done a couple installs and is willing to deal on the unit and installation packages. Shoot me a PM if you want an address...

Navigation TV Tuner System
Has any one installed the Navigation TV Tuner System from AVelectronic. I am seriously considering getting it, but I would like some feed on it. Does anyone have to camera installed with this system? It seems cool, I don't really need it but it would be nice just for show.
I am curently getting my second amp installed and changing out my highs. I might do the Navigation TV Tuner System now or wait to see if they come out with a complete plug & play version, so that I don't have to cut the one wire. Thanks.

Re: Navigation TV Tuner System
I've contacted their sales dept. regarding where to put the tuner in the G (most cars' nav systems are in the trunk- long, complicated install). I ran across a guy who had it put in his TSX and has nothing but praise for it, so it seems to work. AVElectronic also has a lot of pics and a video of the system in operation. I'm considering it right now- I'll do a full write-up if I end up with it.

AVElectronic tuner install
just installed the AVElectronic tuner today. it's a pretty nice package - disassemble the glove box side to get to a four wire connector from the nav to the screen, unplug connector and plug the tuner connectors in between. you have to cut and splice the fifth wire because it doesn't have a connector between the nav unit and screen.
I installed mine under the passenger seat; the length of the wire from the tuner to the nav wires limits your mounting options. I picked the pass seat so the trunk mt dvd wire and backup camera could reach and it will make it easier to add headrest monitor screens later.
There is a fair amount of wiring to install; the power harness, IR remote eye, off/on switch for the screen, 2 diversity antennas (included) the FM modulator cable, the nav cable, wire to reverse which turns on the backup cam when you shift to reverse, wire to parking break which prevents unit from running unless the brake is on for safety reasons - of course I hooked this up instead of grounding it to bypass it ; ).
The unit has three AV in so you could have a dvd, cam and x-box or p-station as well as the tv tuner. also has 2 AV out - plan to use these for the headrest monitors.
just installed the tuner today - worked fine. I did take pics which I'll post soon. I'll also follow up with my impressions when I've used it a bit.
Took all day to do the tuner, going to add the dvd changer tommorrow ( also from AVElectronic ) a 10 disc changer that plays dvd, cd scd and mp3.
so far everything is as claimed, back up camera is on backorder so i'll have to wait to check out the cam/reverse function.

Re: AVElectronic tuner install
Good job!
I am getting ready to order my tv tuner from Sam at AVElectronic. He's very resourceful. I was going to get the 10 disc changer but it's on backorder. I think I will install the PS2 as the player for now and as your recommend it, put the tuner under the pass seaat instead of the trunk...just in case i want to add monitors to the headrest later...one thing at a time...Did you add 5.1 sound by chance? I'm hoping to have the box in my hand by this week and have the guys at Monney Car Audio install the unit....Damn KITT never had so much "Hi-Tech" equipment!

Re: AVElectronic tuner install
actually, I didn't even know it was 5.1 capable until I got the changer in my hands. I'l probably pass on the 5.1, as I'm dumping the sound to the stock bose unit, but if you find out what is required to do this I would be interested in finding out, the manual doesn't list what adaptor you use for this. does anyone have a suggestion for the best location to tap into a reverse wire? my cam backup cam is coming today or tommorrow....
Re: AVElectronic tuner install
btw, if you have the folding arm rest with the pass-through in the back seat, you may want to consider mounting the changer where I did; mount it in the trunck vertically and line the cd magazine door up with the pass through, then you can load the magazine from inside the car by reaching through the pass through - it lines up nicely! will post a pic soon...

the pink synch wire is the one wire you have to cut and splice - located on a conector on the back of the nav dvd player
