Night Riders
I don't know about you but here in the Garden State it's impossible to find open highway during the day to let your G go. At night time (after 11:00pm) I find the roads more amenable for a spirited run (be safe). I just came back from a great drive. Any night riders out there?

4:30 AM on South Padre Island Drive (three lane expressway) you can drive any speed you choose. I usually see maybe 1 other car on the way to work at that time. This is in Corpus.
Between Corpus Christi and San Antonio and Corpus and Houston there is NOTHING. I mean nothing. You, cows, heat, tumbleweed. You can roll up 37 to San Antonio as fast as your conscience (and nerve) will allow. The same goes for the Houston trip - 77 to 59 can be taken at your goverend limit for the most part, especially in the evening hours.
Both are pretty much drivable at speed all day, everyday. The sad part is you have to take the road to nowhere to enjoy either.

Would you agree that you could drive 100+ (easily) to Houston, cops aside, based on traffic up 77 & 59? I mean, there would be little areas where you'd have to slow (damn traffic lights), but overall?

Just make sure you have a radar detector. Route 21 is also great for speeding from Newark to Route 80/3/46/ and GSP. But you have to worry about debris and potholes.

287 is probably the worst highway in New Jersey. I can't stand it. There are potholes ,road cracks and crevases everywhere, ridged pavement, tires scattered along the sides of the roads that sometimes blow onto the edges of the road, its terrible!
To be perfectly honest, if I am stressed out and/or just feel like going for a cruse, I head down Route 9 or Route 18, and I always love the turnpike and parkway as well, nice and smooth, not to mention the beautiful scenery by the NYC area.

Ever make you wonder we need powerful cars when we can't even open them up except for at night. Same way here in philly - sucky traffic - I-76 anyone. I'm on it everyday with my wife in her VW. I put about 5k a year on my car - half of that is from stress relieving midnight runs somewhere. Now I'm wondering what I could be doing with the $ but have decided that someday I'll have a great paid off G with no miles that will bring me years of stress relief and hassle free ownership. THe cost of the midnight run is about 100/per but whatever. I can't seem to part from my car.
