Unplugging a negative terminal on a battery = rocket science?

thanks. i unplugged it for 12-13 hours. i had plugged it back to the battery and then drove it like crazy for about 5 minutes. the throttle felt different, as if it were more accurate. i'm not sure how to explain it. It did feel as if the car had a little bit more pickup. I was hitting higher speeds on my normal street than before and i surprised myself. Thanks for the info guys.

I tried the ecu reset using a series of "mashing the gas pedal" a set # of times while the key is on but engine off on my 05 AT. This fixed two things that bothered me. One, the accelerator is now linear..half throttle is half throttle and full throttle is full throttle. Before, half throttle felt stronger than full throttle. Also it seems to have smoothed out the rough 2->3 shift when using manual mode. Now it's a smooth as the others.

I have an 05 auto and I did the same thing this weekend. I noticed the exact same results that you did. The car does not seem faster. It just seems a lot smoother and easier to drive. Needless to say I am much happier driving it now.

mpgxsvcd, which reset did you perform? The Pedal or the Battery? What is the difference between the two? Also where is the step by step guide for the pedal reset? Thanks

Just in case you dont want to go through all the trouble of opening your hood and loosening the terminal on the battery...

There is always the pedal method:

First of all you need to put your car on the on position without starting it, now press the gas pedal 7 times to the floor, stop, count to 10, 1 one thousand 2 one thousand 3 one thousand 4 one thousand and so on...., now put your left blinker on, right blinker, right blinker, horn, clutch, ok make sure your parking brake is on or when you do the clutch, you might roll down a hill, gas pedal 7 times, count to 5, spin around in the driver seat, power seat all the way up and then all the way back....

Now if you do this correctly you will notice that you are dizzy and confused and absolutely nothing happened....

So keep trying and you will get it buddy

1. Turn the ignition on - don't start the motor.
2. Wait a few seconds for the dash dummy lights to go out
3. Floor the gas pedal 5 times quickly
4. Wait about 7 secs
5. Hold the gas pedal down for about 10 secs until the "check engine light" blinks.
6. Turn ignition off.
7. You're done

I have no idea the diff between this and a battery reset. I was just hoping to re-calibrate my gas pedal which seemed way off. This reset fixed that. Also as a result the MM shift from 2->3 is no longer jolting the drivetrain. So yes, I could feel a diff on my car and it has 7700mi's on it..not sure if yours will react the same.
