Updates on battle with rattles

FYI,

I'm frustrated with my G35S with rattles so I went to my dealer ask for a test drive of the brand new G35S 6MT. I'm suprise that it has even more rattles than my current one. I service advisor suggested me to file a complain against Infiniti see where it will goes. Anyone has done this? Advice? Want to join force?

Thanks

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

I'm a newbie and just got my car about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm noticing the same thing with rattles in my door panels and depending on the song, and bass at 0 my sunroof area seems to rattle to. I'll be going back to the dealer to file my complaint

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

My dealer is deaf and never managed to hear a single rattle, so I decided to fix it myself. I've only had time to do my front left door, and it's now rattle free. Here is what I posted in another forum about the problem and how to fix it:

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

Ah yes, the infamous window crack sound. Drove me nuts.

The easy fix is per the TSB. Tighten the window track and regulator bolts. 7 total per door.

The hard fix, which is what my car required, involves removal of the headliner and repair of the improperly spot welded panels. The Nissan/Infiniti tech. folks know about this problem. After this repair my sedan is now as tight as a drum. I am really amazed how solid this car is even with the sport suspension and 35 PSIG in the tires.

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

couple questions,

dspisak, which dealer did you have your car window crack repair at? Do you have any paper work specify exactly what have been done? Better yet, do you know the name of the Nissan/Infiniti tech that performed/or adviced on fixing the problem?

Thanks alot, I need to know as much as possible before bring my car in. I want this to be the last time.

Peninsula Infiniti in Redwood City, CA.

I do not have any specific paperwork. The work invoice essentially says: removed headliner, test drove car, located source of noise, repaired noise, replaced headliner.

I do not have the name of the Tech. from SoCal but the Service advisor at Peninsula is Bob Anderson, an extremely pleasant and patient individual.

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

marcinr,

Just performed the door rattle fix without problems. Very good instructions. I now have zero rattles! Why did I put off something so easy. Did you see the crappy job the dealers did to try and fix the rattles? No wonder it never got fixed. Also the materials sucked, and the glue they used looked to have been applied by a gorilla. This crap is everywhere. If you want something done right, you have to do it your self. Can't wait to shove this in the service manager's face!

Marcinr,

Where did you buy the "foam" to that used to do the rattle fix? Is velcro good (the soft side)?

Thanks.

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

Gster, any weather stripping (the foam strip with a sticky back) would do fine on the doors. Use 1/16" thick foam to wrap around the wires and tie with kite string. That is what I used. Velcro would work good too. Hope this helps.

Another material I have found to be helpful in eliminating small noises is the sticky-backed green felt used to prevent lamps from scratching table tops, etc. It comes in pre-punched circles and sheets. I've found it at the local hardware store. I've applied it where cables or wires can rub or tap against the metal parts of the doors.

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

Well....It's a rainy day here in Sugar Land, so I decided
to go to Home Depot and get all the stuff to fix my door rattle.
Followed instructions from this site to the letter with NO
problems. Man OH Man! The test drive sounded like the
empty vacume of outer space! I guess I had more rattles than
I was aware of, because the silence is deafening. Now all I
hear is the sound my tires make upon contact with the
pavement and the air rushing through my K&N filter on
acceleration. The fix was easier than I thought, did all 4 doors.
If you haven't done this yet, just do it and you will be so much
happier.

God I love this car!

Re: Updates on battle with rattles

Glad to hear that your car is set Cato. I still have to do my other 3 doors. So far the rattles are just about gone (have a couple spots that really react to low freq bass). The hardest part of the fix was trusting yourself that you won't rip or tear the door panels when popping off the plastic rivits. Otherwise a breeze to do.
