I edited my post after checking my tires for wear. ~18k and I bet 90% worn. I might get to 20k with these tires.

They're still nice-*** tires and performance is WOW but 18k @ just under $1k per set (including certs and all) is a lot of cash and fairly often (I drive 24k per year)

Hope the additional info helps.

Yep, went to get a rotation today and the F1 are spent. They kind of need replacing now. I'll rotate them one last time and start shopping. I checked my records too for when I replaced them and they're not EVEN at 18k yet. More like 15k.

So... I'll be paying attention to this thread too. I did notice the price of the F1's has come down a LOT since I bought them (tirerack has them for like 160 a piece, I think they were 210 when I got them, although shipping may make them that) but even so, I have almost 40k miles remaining on my lease and I sure would like to change the tires twice vs 4 times in that same period

I'm considering the Avon M500s and the Firestone Wide Ovals. Looks like the Avons will definitely outlast the Eagle F1s at the expense of a little performance (they're in a lesser class but at the top of it) but I'm having a hard time finding out how long I should expect the wide ovals to last.

AaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

I hate this process I'd love to just get the F1s again but man 15k? I mean, the performance... Will I be happy with a lesser tire now?

Just ordered the Avon 550's myself this morning. Will be getting them mounted early next week.
I'll post my initial view on them and them some reviews at every 1000 miles or so.
From reading here and elsewhere on the net, the Avon's are getting great reviews for a less expensive tire.

So I guess we'll see how things go.

Did you check out Tirerack.com? Find out what hundreds of others like in their review section. Great resource.

Silver04, are you putting them on your stock 17's and are you getting 235/50/17 ?

What can I say....Tirerack.com is awesome!!!!!
Ordered the tires yesterday morning and they are in already. Leaving work a little early to get them installed.

I went with the 235/50/17 on the stock sport rims. I went up in size cause I feel the 215 is just too narrow a tire for this car.

I did check out Tirerack.com's reviews, that's how I came to the conclusion on getting the Avon's. But each car reacts a different way with sizes and tires than ours, hence me starting this thread. I wanted to get a feel for how OUR car responds to different tires.

So, I'll break them in over the weekend and let you all know my initial view.

thanks
mike

Silver04,

You mind doing a big favor when you get a chance? I wanted to get the exact tires like you M550 A/S but I really want a picture of the width of the tires. From the research I've done, they are about 1.7 inches wider than the stock Turanzas but I want a visual picture of it. You mind taking a picture of the tire width from the rear view of your car? And also the front with the tires tilted out the fender? Sorry for so many request but a shot from the side view with the tires lining up the fender would be great too.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I'll stop by my house and pick up my camera. I could probably better that and take a pic of the new tire and old tire next to each other off the car. Then when I'm home i'll take the other pics.
I think it woudl be a good visual for people to see actually how much wider a 235 is compared to 215.

Thanks
mike

I will be going with the Avon M550s in the 215/55R17 size. IMO, a 235/50R17 is too wide for the 17X7 and you may loose some steering feel. The OEM Turanza EL42s 215/55R17 are quite narrow compared to the M550s in the same size. The M550s are nearly .7" wider contact patch. I've seen them on a G35 sedan and they are far more squared off than the EL42s. This mild improvement makes the tire/wheel appear to fill out the wheel well a little better and adds a more aggressive look. The M550s are also pretty light too.

M550 215/55R17 26lbs
EL42 215/55R17 26lbs

M550 235/50R17 31lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silver04 is right, the 215's are too narrow for the G.

I went with the Toyo Proxes TPT and love them in the 235/50/17 size...conering is a whole different animal with wider tires on the G and in particular the Toyo's handle wonderfully. I got a great deal on them and I'm very happy with my purchase.

By the way, I'm ashamed to admit it but I drive like doogie;>)

Just curious, do you guys throw away your Turanza's when you replace them with the new tires? I only have 5,000+ miles on them. I wonder if I the place that installs the tires would buy back used tires??

I just replaced the stock Goodyears with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I also upsized to 235/50/17. Based on other posts from this forum, I decided to keep them on the the stock sport rim. After seeing them, I think the rim is too narrow for that width tire. I've had good luck with these tires on other cars. I find them to give decent performance, with good bad weather traction and above average wear.

By the way, after upsizing the tires the unsprung weight feels like it's gone up noticeably. I don't know how much the stock tires weigh, but the new ones are 27 lbs, according to TireRack's site. Does anyone know how much the stock sport rims weigh? I think I'm going to go to a lighter, slightly wider rim in order to get some of the nimble feeling back. The car feels a lot more solid on the road than before, but it also feels heavy, kind of like walking with shoes that have a lot of mud caked on them. Has anyone else noticed this when going to wider tires, or is it just me?
