Fuel inefficiency

Anyone else getting less than 18mpg? 3/4 of a tank and I only get 200 miles. 20 gallon tank = 200/15 = 13.5 mpg! Far cry from the 18/26 adverstiment!

I drive 50/50 highway/city.

Anyone else getting this or is there some TBS i dont know about?

Sedan AT Black/Graphit (650+ miles).

I feel the same way and in my 350 and wifes 03 Max (both autos) we are getting about 220 and 230 miles respectively on full tanks and we dont gun them all the time. The trip computers are way off and I can see the hand move in each of the cars if I give them a little gas. I dunno but the 3.5's are just gas guzzlers INMO.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

I can always get 300 miles per tank of gas with 100% city
driving. Of course the needle is at the bottom peg and the
low fuel light is on. It normally takes 16.5 - 17 gallons at
300 miles. My wife's 2000 Maxima is the same, but it gets
better mileage than my G. I calculate 17-18 mpg in the G
for city driving. I once got 19, but I was new to the car and
must have been babying it.

I'm getting pretty crumby mileasge too. I figure it's about 15-17 mpg withi a 50/50 mix of city/highway driving. I'm due for my 11,500 mile checkup in another few weeks and am going to complain (again) to the service manager. Maybe there's an ECU tweak they can make or something...?

I've been getting ~20mpg, mostly over... I'm not "babying" the car, either. I do about 50/50 city/hw... I must be doing something right, I guess.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

I don't drive like an animal 24/7, but I never baby my cars. My wife's 02 auto SE Maxima has actually gone down in mileage over the last year...it used to get almost 400 mptank when nearly new and now it's more like my 00 SE Auto Maxima was getting which is 350+ mpt. My 03.5 auto G35 sucks on gas comparitively speaking because it has the 20 gallon tank...it gets 340-360 mpt and the distance till empty meter within my NAV shows dead empty at 300+ miles every time...I am just about averaging 18 mpg so I know the DTE indicator is at zero miles with around 2-21/2 gallons still in there...the other day I filled it up and it took 19.52 gallons and I was only on 357 miles....which is sad.

The only people I see getting 400 mpt + are the ones on the highway with cruise control on, and that won't be me for a long time to come...lol

If someone comes up with an answer...please let us know the secret.

Purchased G35 6MT in Feb. In a 70/30 mix (75-80 mph on highway, fairly agressive driving other times) I was getting ~22 mpg. Since going full synthetic (engine, trans, diff) about 2 months ago I am getting 24-25 mpg. regular use of AC has had about a .5 impact on mpg.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

Interesting...can anyone attribute better miles to synthetic fluids...if so, I am going to Amsoil or Mobil 1 at 15K for mileage.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

I don't know what my secret is but i get 350 to a tank (fillup w/in a few miles after the light comes on.)

I have a 6 speed with 10xxx miles on it and ride with the windows open at interstate speeds 70 percent of the time and like a bat out of hell the other 30 percent. Interstate speed limit here is 90 oops I mean 75, everybody does ninety.

I do live at 5000 feet elevation (high plains) but that should make my mileage worse if anything

that's about 21 mpg for yous dat don' wanna calcumulate

Re: Fuel inefficiency

I get 19 mpg on average. I do have some mods, so I would probably get better without them. Filled up yesterday 17.5gal @ 322 miles. Been a scorcher here in Texas (85% humidity), so the AC has been running constantly.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

What mods do you have that would cause a drop in fuel
efficiency? I also am in Texas (Houston). Have not seen
19 mpg for some time. Only mod I have is a drop in K&N
high flow air filter. My AC is always on as well.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

I switched to Amsoil at 3000 miles (all fluids). I did it primarilly to see if I would get a performance boost. My butt dyno is inconclusive; however, the shifting is smoother and there is no doubt that I gained 2 mpg.

Cato,

I have a Stillen Hi-Flow box, 350Z intake duct, 7 wire Earthing Kit, and an HKS Exhaust. What kind of gas mileage are you getting? I live in the Austin area.

Re: Fuel inefficiency

mbarrad,

Your mods are exactly what I want to do to mine. I am getting
around 18 city driving, with no granny shifting. I have the K&N
drop in filter. Don't know if the Stillen CAI produces that much
more hp than the K&N rectangular filter. Last weekend I drove
to Galveston at 70-90 mph and expected the highway driving
to boost my mileage. At 70-90 is must be worse than city
mileage! Went to school in Austin (UT) and my parents live
in the Northwest part of town. Have not yet had the
opportunity to drive 2222 yet! Man I can't wait to drive that
twisty mountain road! I'm sure you have. How is it?

God I love this car!

Re: Fuel inefficiency

Cato,

Wellll.....I don't exactly drive my G like I'm looking for better gas mileage if you know what I mean... If I drove somewhat decent, I could get better gas mileage. I haven't been on 2222 yet, but I know what you mean. I like Lime Creek Rd or even 1431 to Marble falls. Too many cops on 2222 this time of year, with school being out and such. Most of my driving is to and from work, and is pretty much stop and go traffic (really bad on an unmaintained car). If you do drop by the Austin area, PM me and we can meet up to compare mods, rides and stories. Later.

Mike
