seat memory- 2 intelligent keys

hello,
We just picked up our new 2005 35X- Love it !!
Please help!! We ( my wife & I) tried setting the seats/ steering wheel to our preferences but it was working sporadically. It worked for my wife a couple of times and then when I programmed my key - it would erase my wife's memory. We each set ours up while the other was very far away ( with alternate key). Any idea what we're doing wrong? Do we have to press the 1 or 2 botton everytime each of us enters the car? My impression was that the remote/ intelligent key would recognize our settings when we entered.

Many thanks for your replies.

Billy

I don't think you can program the keys to do that. Unless I missed something. In my case we just use the 1 & 2 botton each time we get in the car. It works great. I'm gonna check my manual though to make sure.

yes you can

If I remember correctly, you adjust the wheel and seat to the position you want, press the set button followed by either 1 or 2 to store the settings, and while it's still flashing press any button on the key fob. The next time you unlock the door the seat and wheel magically welcome you. Too bad the mirrors can't join the fun...

I don't think it's just unlocking the door, that would suck if the tilt wheel went down before you got in, it is the ignition that "welcomes" you!

Thanks guys. Next question, which I should've included, does the system get confused when both keys are in the car? What can we do, besides only taking one key out, to not trip up the system? Lastly, and this might seem paranoid, but we live in NYC, what can we do to avoid someone, in a crowded environment, from pressing the smart botton under the door handle when we walk away from the car. It appears the distance- signal is strong enough so that someone can gain access to the car. I thought of this scenerio for the hood, but luckily the botton in the glove dept. allows us to disable that feature. Is there a way to avoid my scenerio? Besides moving to a safer local. lol
Thanks again.
PS
I am so glad I found this site ! These threads are extremely helpful and reinforced my decision to get this car.

IMO, all i have to be is about 2 feet away and the doors/trunk will stop working so i dont think you have much to worry about. Plus, if someone opens your doors via the intelligent key button you will hear it "chirp" so chances are if you're close enough for them to open the door while you walk away then you can hear it. If you're still paranoid, get lo-jack installed and get a little insurance discount while you're at it

Yes, on my M, if I'm more than 2-3 feet away, the button will not work to open the doors.

I don't think so. In fact we have left one of the controls inside the car, and lock the car without a problem and car would not beep at all. We have even tried to open the car knowing the key is inside and the other far from it, and the car would not open.

As for your other question, I know my son has ran ahead of us and tried to open the doors and I was about 4 feet away when the car responded. So I think you're safe and you would hear it if someone opened the doors behind you.

Thanks again, I should've reworded my last question. I was referring to the seat/wheel memory. Does the car get confused when both keys are present. How does it know which setting to adjust to?

Good question. My experience is that if you unlock any door (even the trunk) and YOUR key fob is within 2 feet of that specific outside button's antenna, then the seat and steering wheel move to your personal prefs (before you get into the car). I think that if you are already in the car the automatic positioning memory is only accessable via the driver's seat "1 or 2" buttons.

I was wondering about that. So if you marry the FOB to the seat memory, you lose the easy entry mode (i.e., steering wheel up, seat back)?

Sorry, I completely forgot about "easy entry" mode and don't know how that ties into this key fob driver postion memory business. Not home to test it, but my guess is whoever unlocks the door wins the seat position.

I disabled "easy entry" because my wife finds it easier to get in with the seat already at her height (up high). Also, having the furniture move every time we open the door makes me wonder about the lifespan of those little motors. And the battery for that matter...

PS: We're new to Nissan/Infiniti and really appreciate this forum - thanks to all.

My experiences are as follows:
If you set the intelligent keys to the seat memories, all you have to do is press the unlock button on the remote and the seat and wheel will conform to that key/seat button, whether the car is locked or not. When you open the door, the "easy entry" will still function, but when you close the door and start the motor, the seat and wheel will return to the memory position of the last key used to press the unlock button. Sounds complicated but it's not. Also, to set the keys, just follow the directions in the owner's manual. Works perfectly.

I just recently figured this one out. Having both keys in the car isn't a problem. Whenever you shift drivers, you have to push the unlock button on the fob to reprogram the seats for the driver using the fob. If you don't use the buttons on the fob again, it will stay adjusted for that driver no matter which fob is actually in the car.

question about making the furniture mve, I like the analogy thnx, apparently this is not something that the MTs can do. I bought mine thinking it would sadly it does not.

Any one know of a way to amke it work for the 6sp MT cars? according to the 05 owners manual page 3-34 says it only works on ATs. WTF?
