Been driving everyday without my front license plate for about 6 months now, no problems so far. It is required though that you have them on back and front, but unless its a cop on a bad day or just pulled you over for no apparent reason and is looking for a reason to give you a ticket, then you should be good. Besides, you just get a fix it ticket. I rather have my car clean and risk it.

It is definitely illegal in Cali to drive without a front license plate. How strongly it's enforced will depend upon where you live. I live in L.A. and have to park on the streets (including the people's republic of Santa Monica), so I won't chance it. Depending on the city, they even have parking enforcement writing tickets for it. So while a cop might not go through the trouble of citing you, don't think for a minute parking enforcement won't if they happen to notice. I don't know how much the ticket is, so it might be worth it to you because I think the car looks better without a front plate.

I don't believe it will save you from a photo enforced light. They take pictures of the front and back of your car as you drive away. From what I understand, if you don't have a front license plate but do have a rear plate, you will not only get the ticket for running the red but also for not having the front plate.

Bottom line, here's my take on it: you're giving 5-0 a reason to justifiably pull you over and possibly harrass you. Why do it? If you just had a beer (but still under the limit of course), now you've got a cop who pulled you over for something as silly as a license plate holder, and you're doing a sobriety checkpoint on the side of the road. I think most traffic cops are a*holes, and I'd just rather not have to deal with them. It's just a matter of how much it's worth to you... for me, it's not at all.

As far as drilling into your bumper, I'm with you. I wouldn't feel comfortable. .... The dealer should put it on for you for free. I think they might be required to actually, but if not, I bet they'll do it as a courtesy. My dealer told me to come in as soon as my plates come in so they could put them on (I'm gonna wait the full 90 days though).

It's a $10 fix-it ticket (I've never gotten one), and not all photo enforced lights take a picture of both back and front.

I live in Cali and had my truck for 8 years with no front license plate, a couple weeks after putting it up for sale i got a fix it ticket for no front plate... lol. Not too strict about it in San Diego, just dont get pulled over and it shouldnt be a problem. The pigs are more likely to get you for it if they pull you over for something else just do be dick heads.

Well, Stillen put a sizing tool for the mounting bolt on their web site (printed template) between that and Home depot, I found out my tow hook bolt is 24mm. Fortunately Stillen now offers a 16mm, 22mm, and a 24mm (late 2004 coupe only).

I just received the 24mm assembly, and it fits very nicely on my 2005 sedan. It would be prudent to measure the bolt before ordering, since it seems there's a real assortment of sizes used for the G35...

usually cops don't care if you don't have a front license plate on a nice car, but if you have a modified rice rocket or so.. then i think they'll ticket you.

if you dont have your front license plate you get a ticket, what kind? an infraction, which is a "fix it" ticket.
what now? go to a starbucks, double side tape your front license plate on your car, tell an officer to sign it off...
take it off, and now pay 10 bucks to the county clerk.

All depends on who's enforcing it. I got two tickets in San Diego for no license plate in a freaking parking lot. Came back to my car and there was a ticket on my windshield. Fortunately, they didn't require me to show proof of correction. It was just a $25 fine. Paid it off both times and they got off my back. I just considered it a luxury tax. I park in that lot often, so after the 2nd time, I went out and got a car cover so they don't get me for it any more. Worked like a charm!
