You asked for it: 5AT Sedan Dyno

I saw several requests for this so I thought I'd go get it done. I might find a different shop to get a "second opionion" just in case. At any rate, here is one to get us started. Here are my base numbers for the 5AT G Sedan. My sedan has 4400 miles on it. The only thing different on my G are the wheels and tires (each is 9 lbs. lighter than stock).

I took it to a Mustang performance shop. They have a DynoJet 248 in case anyone wants to know. The owner was really impressed with the car and surprised that it showed more power than a stock GT (I wouldn't have known that if he hadn't mentioned it). The tech that ran it also loved the car. I thought they would be kind of snotty since it was a Mustang place, but they were very cool. Three total runs were done and this was the best of the 3. The other 2 were very close (within 1%). The best part was seeing him get the speedometer to 140 and hearing that engine roar like a beast. It was truly awesome!

Very cool. I've heard that Dynojets tend to be low on what they read out for HP and torque. Is this a stock sedan, or do you have mods? If you do have mods, then what are they? Thanks a bunch for sharing your dyno with us.

Only the wheels are non-stock.

I also live in the Houston area. Who did this for you, how much did
they charge and where are they located? I would like to see what
my mods have done. (K&N filter, GG Hypergrounding kit soon)

God I love this car!

Question:

Lower weight wheels reduces the mass the engine has to rotate, therefore expending less energy than with stock wheels. Would this directly translate to horsepower gains measured at the rear wheels?

Cato,

The name of the place is Houston Performance, Inc. You can get all their info here:

http://www.houstonperformance.com/

They're on the northwest side of town. The price was $75 which I've found to be pretty standard for 3 pulls. Great people. Let them know Don with the G35 sent you.

Was that a 4th gear pull or 3rd gear? I need to go back and get mine re-dynoed cause the first time they couldn't keep the car from downshifting from 4th.

It was a 4th gear pull. He did a 3rd thinking it was a 4 gear auto so I had him do the rest in 4th. Surprisingly they were almost identical.

Re: You asked for it: 5AT Sedan Dyno

Any body else notice that those numbers are more than the normal 15% loss at the wheels? His numbers reflect 17% loss on torque and 19.6% loss on HP

Nice post btw, thanks for doing it.

Automatics always experience more of a loss through the drivetrain.

That is true auto have a greater loss through the drivetrain. I have 20's on my auto alot heavier then stocked rims and only dynoed at 208rwhp. But with nitrous and a few other mods, I am at 280rwhp. www.msnusers.com/nosg35

Re: You asked for it: 5AT Sedan Dyno

A 72 shot is so mild on our car. It can handle much more, but i'm being conservative. There a guy with a coupe who is currently running 75, but he's going to increase it to 100. And as far the when you can hit the nitrous, you activate it from a dead start. It won't kick in until wide open throttle.
