My first tank of gas in my car was around that 11-12 mpg, but then again I was also driving mostly city and very very spirited :-)

Anything below 15mpg in an AT sounds bad to me, unless you are racing around a lot. I've been doing 16mpg with no highway miles - all city driving with AC where I rarely see 50mph. I have fun with my 6spd but still keeping revs low to break her in.

I think it is pretty normal. I drive almost the same conditions as you, 100% city driving, about 10 miles a day, lots of stop signs and traffic lights and I get about 12 - 14 mpg. The biggest difference is that I hardly ever step hard on the gas pedal. I usually get about 260 miles per tank. The only good thing is that I only have to fill up once every two weeks. I use to work 40 miles away, so 80 miles round trip, and I use to fill up twice a week but I got about 28 mpg. I will take the less mpg, and less miles on car any day.

just so you know, short trips bad for the engine. doesnt leave time for water to get out of exhaust = new muffler in a bout a year or so.
LOL you should just get a bicycle

Yup, it's the short trips. I read recently that all V6s and V8s get no better than 12-15mpg during the first few minutes while warming up. You, my friend, are a prime candidate for a four cylinder commuter car, or a prius!

Not necessarily true, most exhaust systems today are made from stainless steel. It's not like it was 20 yrs ago, most of the time the exhaust will last the life of the car. As for your commute, you should try a scooter, for like $1800 you can cruise around for a few weeks on 1.5 gal of gas.

Look at it this way. 10 miles commuting to work at 12mpg is still only $2.50/day. Sure beats riding the bus!

yes the money really isnt' an issue at this point. I still only pay about $90 a month on gas ($3.08 a gallon for premium in Hawaii). Even if I got 20 mpg I'd only save like $35 a month.

did you ever figure out why your only getting 12mpg? For the last 2 fill ups thats what I have been averaging too. 8mpg on street. The exhaust smells really burnt too. The car feels fine though.

I need to check all the o2 sensors and spark plugs

No.. if your AC is on, the clutch on your compressor is engaged. It makes no difference if your fan is on high or low.. Even the defroster will activate the AC compressor. As far as gas milage goes I live in Vegas and I drive aggressively and I get between 16.5 and 17.3 awith an AT. If my wife drives it she will get 19 in town..

Weird, my city driving is similar - stop and go, lots of traffic, a/c is normally on and I still get ~16-18. I'm pretty aggressive, but not as much as some of you!
