Okay - I had wanted a loaded Prius. Even though I had never had the chance to test drive one, I put my $500 down on the fully loaded one with HID/Nav, etc. Finally, the car comes in at the beginning of July. I have first right of refusal. Well, I am 6'6", most of that in my legs (38" inseam, if that is not TMI for you). Well, the car had great headroom - better than the G with sunroof, but there was no way I could drive it. The position of the steering wheel and the shape of the center console had my leg wedged at an angle. I could hit the break but could not easily hit the gas. Oh - and my leg also rested on the gear shift. Oh well - I tried to be green! A few weeks later I got the G. I'm still ahead - I had been driving a 12.5 mpg Dodge Durango!

Compared to a Civic or something like that, which is what the comparison would be, you would save maybe 500 dollars a year in gas and the two are not priced that different. So it's not a big difference in cost and it is worth it to some people that the emissions are so low. The biggest problem to me is that the smaller the car, the more dangerous it is to be in it, all other things being equal.
The RX400 isn't about saving gas compared to the RX330. It's about V8 performance for V6 mpg.. The real comparison is to the V8 Volvo, V8 Grand Cherokee etc.. It beats the living hell out of them.

well the RX400h is the HYBRID model so in sense hybrid should be more fuel efficient and "green." I believe there is a RX400 model which is not hybrid too.

If the oil/gas prices stay high, $3/gal or more, we will probably see companies start to think about gas efficiency.

Obviously, it has not been a priority for many companies, Infiniti with the G35, the new IS, etc. HP is king, engines have been getting bigger, more cars with V8, etc.

Of course, part of this is people wanting power.

If I were to have bought a Camry or Accord a few years ago, I would have gone V6 rather than 4 cyl. Of course, I went G35 instead

I would have been happy if there had been a 230hp G35 with an extra 5mpg, but it wasn't an option. Now, obviously, I would notice the lack.

The Hybrids now are to try to appease the greens, but because of the power demands by customers, they have been used to get more power.
