Unused 5th gear. Anyone else?

I've been driving my 05 6MT Sedan for 2 month now and I've noticed that I hardly ever use 5th gear. Around town I don't usually get out of 4th. On the highway, I usually work up to 4th while merging and then go straight to 6th for cruising.

This is my first 6-speed, which I thought would somehow be cooler than a 5-speed. It seems 5th and 6th are both highway cruising gears so, unless you need to pass at high speed quickly, there's really no need for 5th. Or, more accurately, 5th gear could be the size of 6th.

Anyway, I was just curious if other 6-speed drivers find themselves skipping 5th gear a lot.

I do a lot of 4 - 6 shifting but still use 5th for a lot of off highway cruising.

I don't skip gears a whole lot. I do use 5th gear a bunch though. It's perfect for cruising at about 40-45 which is the abundant speed limit where I live.

I usually shift 1 -> 2 -> 3 get up to about 40 then go to 5th. Sometimes I'll use 4th if traffic is 40 or slower. Only time I ever use 6th is above 50- 55.

I'm with you. I almost never use 5th gear. 1-2-3-4-6 is my normal. Occasionally I'll go 1-2-3-6 if I'm getting up to speed while going downhill. And if I'm in 6th and traffic slows down to where the engine is lugging, I'll almost always drop to 4th rather than 5th.
