Would moving to 18" Wheels from 17" on sports pkg make ny diff?

Hi I am planning on moving from 17" to 18" with sports pkg in. Would it make any difference to my ride quality? As it is in chicago where roads are the worst it makes such a mess out of the car(noises/rattling) with stock 17s, so do you think 18"s would be ok?

Also how are ASA wheels? Any good? I dont want to spend too much since this is my 2nd car and I am going to be soon spending some big $$ once my Vette is in..

Thanks.

I went from 17 to the sedan 18" wheels and the ride quality does not seem to have changed but the handling has greatly improved probably because of the change from the 17 all season to a 18" summer performance tire.

I have those Avons on my Altima now and I'm very pleased. Keep in mind, though that I rarely drive this car hard, as it's just my daily driver. But I do like them.

Anybody ever wonder why the mods even bothered to make a separate forum for wheels, brakes, tires, etc?

One way to find out first hand is to go to a dealership and take a coupe out for a test drive. The ride will be a bit firmer than the sedan. If you like it the way it feels, you'll love it on the sedan.

If I were you, I'd get the 18's. I don't believe there will be a noticeable difference in the ride quality.

IMO, the ride quality largely changes when you go to a lower profile tire. That has been my experience. I went from 55's to 45's and my cars does handle better, but the ride is not as smooth. I do not believe that it is due to the diameter of the wheel/tire.

Not exactly the best way to compare the difference. Doesn't the coupe have stiffer shocks and springs? That will definetly mask any noticeable differences in wheel diameter and tire profile.

Changing the size of the wheel can affect the ride characteristics. A larger diameter wheel will most likely weigh more (unless you go with a very lightweight forged wheel). The added weight will change how effectively the suspension works. A heavier wheel/tire combo will not allow the suspension to react as quickly to road irregularities which means that more impact shock and vibrations will get transferred to the car's structure (and be felt by the driver). Thusly, it will also hurt handling.

Of course, a lower profile tire will will most definetely affect ride quality. There's less sidewall to flex and absorb the impact of hitting a bump.

I guess you did not read what I said before. Of course the coupe has a stiffer suspension....that's exactly what I said. If he likes the ride on the coupe he will like it on the sedan with 18's. Or take the '05 Sedan with sports package that has the 18's as well.

He asked a simple question....let's not turn it into a debate 'cause it will not help him at all.

I guess what I was trying to say is that the coupe, with its stiffer suspension, won't ride the same as the sedan with 18s. I was just trying to help by pointing that out (not trying to start a debate).

As you said though, trying an '05 sedan with the sports package would be a good way to determine if he likes the ride or not.

Only 2005 coupes with oem 19's are blessed with a stiffer suspension then sedan's with the sport suspension. The regular coupe suspension has the same spring rates and the shocks are not valved any stiffer then sedan sport shocks. This is why sedan owner's that have switched to a oem regular coupe suspension do not report any real meaningfull differance, their isn't one. Just a 1/2" reduction in center of gravity.
