Well, if it's for show, then by all means, go for it!! 19's will look awesome...

I am running those tire sizes with absolutely no hinderance by the VDC.

Regarding the SSR Competitions in 17's, these are the wheels I plan to get for autox.

I am being told that for the rear +48 or +49 (Can't remember) on the sedan is fine...

Now I'm looking at the LE37Ts in 19s now.. sigh.... so many choices.. I just want things to look right, and not be all out of whack

I have 8.5 42 on the back.
I checked clearance by compressing the suspension & had a good 10mm clearance.
( i have Z springs too)

So it will depend on the tires & camber.

Don't know if you've seen this chart b4.. it's been posted several times.
But you can see the 9.5 42 is slightly outside but it will tuck.

I've seen that chart a bit.. tires will vary also? I'm going to Potenza S03s...

You can look up tire data for cross section width, it varies somewhat.
(watch what rim width they use)

Tire Rack has most of the data, but after you narrow your choice confirm
on the mfg web site as well.
I've seen errors on TireRack

I was under the impression that the 1 inch drop actually helps with opening different offset options that a stock suspension wouldn't have... that is correct right?

The front is perfect. The rear is good but a bit close for my personal comfort when you have people in the back seat. You'll have about 1/8" of clearance. If you don't have passengers often in the back seats, it is a non-issue. Nothing to worry about though.

Worst case scenario you can have a bodyshop do a MILD fender roll. I can't stress enough MILD. Nothing that will stress and crack the paint on the quarter panel.

Here is a pic I found with the Volks you're looking at and pics of my car loaded to give you an idea how close you will be.

oh...I forgot...another good option for you is to consider a tire like FALKEN ST 115. The edges are more round and clear the fenders better. Actually, that is the probably your best bet.

I never have people in the back seats... and I prefer the S03s because I need good Dry AND Wet Traction (miami is a monsoon at times..)

The Volk GT-Vs I'm looking at would be this size:
19x8.5 +46 and 19x9.5 +49

Would that work decently Chico or would it be too much?

If you do a staggered set up you cannot rotate your tires. I personally don't think it is worth it especially if you drive the car hard and have to change out the back tires more often.

TGenius...

As for the fender-clearance issue, don't forget that you also have the option of putting a slightly narrower tire on the wide wheels. What that will do is stretch the sidewalls, making them \ __ / ...when your suspension compresses, it also creates negative camber...combined, you can run lower offsets & create that look I think you're looking for.

The stretched look has been popular for quite some time now. The only thing alot of people don't like about it is that it exposes your wheels' lip more...making it more prone to curbing if you suck at parallel parking. But, thats up to you to be more careful...I know you'll love the look, though! ^-^

To get the stretch:

Wheel - 8.5 inch wide
Tire - 235mm

Wheel - 9.5 inch wide
Tire - 265mm
