30,000 Mile Maintenance
30,000 Mile Maintenance
Hello! I just purchased a 03 Sedan with 27k miles on it. Upon reading the manual I found out that the car requires a major overhaul at 30k miles. The Nissan dealer near me wants $600 for the service. Is it worth it? Should I pick and choose the services that will help the over all life & performance of the car? I have been told that in the long run it is worth it. Any opinions on this?
Thx

My local Infiniti dealer wanted about $600 for the 30K service as well. I shopped around and found that "Brakes Plus" (a franchise in the Denver area) would do all that Infiniti would do, except replace the wiper blades, for about 1/3 the price. Brakes Plus even did a 4 wheel alignment and a fuel injector cleaning for their price, and documented the service to meet warranty requirements. I don't have anything against the local Infiniti dealer, (they are nice folks and reasonably competent) but I think their charge for the 30K service is quite overpriced.

Where is fuel injector servicing required in the owners manual?
Purely my opinion, but I've owned 5 fuel injected cars over the past 16 years and never once have I had injector problems. 3 of those 5 cars were drag raced quite regularly too. Injector cleaning seems like snake oil to me. If you've got clogged injectors then you have more serious issues to contend with.

As for the 30K service, check the owners manual for the REQUIRED service. The dealer throws in a bunch of fluff that they RECOMMEND but is not required. That's where they make their money.
I just called Major Infiniti in Kansas City. Sounds like they do exactly what the manual calls for for $317.00. Oil/filter, air filter and in-cabin air filter changes. Rotate tires and "adjust" air pressure. Mostly "inspections". (Most likely a quick glance by the guy changing the oil.) Everything that I already do myself. How hard is it to change the in-cabin filter? They want $110.00 to do that.

BTW $317 sounds high for the 30K service

Live by the owners manual, not what dealership tells you. The manual was written by Nissan engineers. Dealerships are run by businessmen.
religiously - change oil, coolant, air-filter(performance, mileage) ---
that's it.
enjoy the car, it's awesome
So even if we downshift a whole bunch we don't need to step up the service schedule. My car has 28,500 miles and since I drive a lot of non-hiway miles I would do it at 30k or at least 60k.
What's the schedule for coolant?
