15,000 service

Ok, I am almost due for the 15,000 service. I nearly had a stroke when they told me it was $315. What could the car possibly need after only 15,000 miles??

They want to charge you about $100 to change the
"In cabin micro air filter". Then nickle and dime you on
oil change, tire rotation, etc. etc.

God I love this car!

Re: 15,000 service

I just went in for the 7,500 mile service. They wanted $210 and after I had them break it down, over $100 was for cleaning the "throttle body" and for a can of gas treatment. This seems excessive to me at 7,500 miles and the maintenance schedule doesn't mention the throttle cleaning. I ended up having them just do the oil change and tire rotation and this still cost $87. At 15,000 miles I again plan on having them break the services down and to the extent there are unnecessary add ons at such low of mileage, I'll just say no thanks.

Kind of what I thought. Yes, I am a woman and yes, I am blond but I was not born yesterday. I have not had the car long enough to break anything or really use it.

Thanks a bunch for your input!!

Re: 15,000 service

The service check-ups are a way for dealers to get some free money. Rather, save your money now, just do the regular oil/filter change and use the funds when the car reaches 80k to 100k and then do a good, comprehensive tune-up. After that, you shouldn't need another one till after 150k.

The idea is to use the money only as need arises: air filter, transmission service, brakes, etc. Nowadays the cars are of better quality and last longer.

I've done this to my previous cars and all of them made it a good margin over 100k (includes some Chevys too !). The only fanatic thing I do is to use the best gasoline and change the oil/filter at every ... 2k miles (I know a lot of people will laugh about it, but that's me !).

Just my subjective opinion. In any case, good luck !

Re: 15,000 service

All dealerships of all car makes tend to try to "upgrade" the various service schedules. Just do what's in the manual, unless you're experience specific problems.

Re: 15,000 service

I figured as much. I had an Acura before this and drove it for almost 200,000 with only oil changes and the basic maintenance. It ran like a top. I'll follow the manual.

Thanks!

Re: 15,000 service

I'm due for a 15,000 service too! $300+ is way too much for a service job...I already had the front brakes replaced was down to 2mm in less than a year...oops driving a lil too hard but damn this car is so much fun...I just added a dvd/tv tuner to my GPS...I'm hearing 2 different things...the shop that installed it said it's legal to have a video screen upfront...and others are saying it's illegal to have a dvd/tv tuner up front. Anyways, I figure if I see a cop I'll just switch over to GPS! Let me know how much your 15K will cost!

(PS) I had 3 Acura's with no problems cept for the TL-S worst ACURA I've evered owned..ugh! Make sure they detail your car and give you a loaner for the 15K =)

Re: 15,000 service

It's illegal to be playing movies or TV, where the driver can view it, while the car is in motion. If the driver can't see it, or you're parked, it's okay.
