How many people in texas have driven 100mph in their G. It seems to me in the last two days viewing some of the post that people in the texas area dont have a chance to hit that 100 mark. Is it because of the highway patrol. What is the speed limit there. I have heard in some states in the midwest that at certain times there is no speed limit.

I live in Corpus, but not for long.

The highest speed limit I've seen in my Texas travels is 70, but people only use that as a point to reference.

I've had my G well over 100, but under controlled conditions. The fastest I've gone on the highway is about 85.

 

Hey GW--at 3am you can hit 100mph+ safely on the str8s of the Causeway going to Portland,TX--but watch out for the Portland cops--since they are more likely to patrol the entry into their town than CCs finest are to patrol the entry into CC.

 

I had the opportunity to get (and stay) well over 100 on a drive back to Dallas from Houston earlier this year. I always drive pretty fast on long road trips.

...as a result I've also had many many tickets in Texas ( more than I care to remember ). Texas highways are heavily policed, and local law enforcement in very small towns are very interested in who's passing thru and how fast. I've never seen a speed limit in texas higher than 70. Most of the time it's 55 or 65 on the highways, but on some rare occasions I've seen a posted limit of 70.

If you speed in Texas it's highly likely you'll get a ticket. As one Texas state trooper told me as he was writing my ticket "This ain't the autobahn son" (I guess he was trying to make a long-stretch reference to my English accent... I dunno, maybe he doesn't know that the UK(aka London) and Germany are not two cities in the country of "Europe"

 

I hit 140 last night for a real short period.

 

I'm about to move to San Antonio, when I was out there looking for houses I went over 100 on a few occaisions

 

Hmm.. I regularly surpass 120 on I35 between San Antonio and Austin, and am not alone in doing so. Thank you Bel Radars! Avg 2 tickets per year with one being at a defensive driving course deferrable speed.. for the other I need an attorney. Only traffic and weather permitting!

 

i've been able to go fast in between dallas and ft. worth on I30 around the grand prairie area and on 121 in between ft. worth and the midcities area. other than that, it's pretty tough with traffic and construction.

 

I'm in Houston where the cops are not too concerned about speeding as long as its not extreme. I once met some Ferrari owners in a club for exotic cars. They do high speed runs on the ship channel bridge between cop shift changes. I have no need to go that fast but I have done 100+ in the past. These days, there is always so much traffic its hard to go that fast. In my teenage days, there would be no one on the roads late at night. My brother and I would open up our Camaro's to around 120 on I-10. When the beltway8 was first built, that used to be perfect for high speed runs because there were no cops and little traffic.

Out on the highways, it's a different story. Some small towns are known for their speed traps. When I went to college on the other side of the state, speed limits were only 55. That sucked and I ended up getting a few speeding tickets. The roads in west TX are flat and straight for miles. It's impossible to go just 55. These days, speed limits are mostly 70 which is perfect IMO.

 

houston to dallas drive i hit 140 in my 2005 Gsedan, late at nite on some lonely highway. My boss at work rides motorcycles, and gave me alotta routes in houston to drive my car, no cops, no traffic, alotta twisties. I"ll throw some on here once i find the map he drew me.

I drove over 100 through Southern Utah, Nevada, California for years. Averaging 90+ over long rides, no problems.

Texas has equaled 4 tickets in 3 years (all for 9-12 over!!!)

 

Hehe. You're right - you sure can - it's a great road too. Heck, you can do 140 on the SPID if you're feeling froggy (especially since they smoothed the bridge joints over the laguna madre), but I'm not telling how I know that.

I love the new causeway out to the island - especially early in the morning.

 

You can haul incredible a$s on 59 outside of Houston headed toward Victoria. The biggest hazards out there are stray cows...

 

Down here in Corpus the speed limit is 70 more than anything else. It blew my mind when I first came down here.

Took a ride out to Kingsville on South Staples. The road goes from 5 lanes to 2 lanes to 2 lanes with no shoulders/reflectors/lighting and the spped limit jumps from 50 to 70...

And they wonder why we average 6 - 10 roll-over accidents a week.

 

I find exactly the opposite to be true down here. For the number of fast movers you see, you rarely see a cop or a pull-over... You have to worry more about tickets on base (which transfer) than out in town...
