Rear. When I ran my 23.5" drag radials at the track, my speedometer said I was going 110mph at the end of the 1/4 mile. On the stock 17s, the speedometer said ~100mph.

Easy enough to figure out.

Get in some wet grass. Hit the gas and you'll have the answer in less than a second. Just make sure you're in some one else's yard. LOL.

I'm pretty sure these sensors are in or around the transmission.

I believe you're both right (about the tranny) but I still want to go cut some donuts in wet grass and watch the speedo needle bounce..

The speedo works off the output shaft of the tranny. Rear drive=rear wheels, front drive=front wheels.

it looks there are some sensor on the half shafts. Are these the speed sensors or are these to monitor wheel slippage for the VDC?

Does it use the front wheel or rear wheel to count the revolution to determine the distance you have traveled?

I think it's been pretty well answered above! All cars use TRANSMISSION output shaft rotation. Front or rear drive doesn't matter.
