i disagree, I managed much better launches without any brake torquing.

I did all these with non sport loaner cars but all my launches were better without brake torquing.

Left foot onthe brake, right foot on the gas but no pressure.

last yellow, lift the left foot and quickly (but not immediately) floor it.

starting in 2 worked jsut as well as starting in 1.

Even in the manual if you are close to stock, high rpms onthe line doesn't help much.

These cars have enough torque to manage 2.0 60' times stock and 1.9 60' times with GOOD street tires.

i cant seem to get 60' times down to a 2.0.. someguy said i was spinning my tires off the line.. is this possible with a "X"? i thought all 4 tires will grab off the line.

R/T .605
60'...... 2.257
330..... 6.331
1/8...... 9.643
MPH.... 74.05
1000 ... 12.487
1/4...... 14.819
MPH ..... 94.88

down with no torque braking.
any suggestions on how to get my 60' times down more.

ok, you need to supply us with way more information:

What was temperature, elevation, humidity, and atmospheric pressure that night?

What were your tire pressures at? Have someone else take your car down the strip for you. See if it is YOU or the CAR.

Gas tank level? spare tire in or out? windshield washer reservoir full or empty? (Yes, 8 lbs (1 gallon) CAN make a difference).

How many miles on your car?

Have you reset your ECU lately? If not, do you routinely drive hard or granny like?

Did you talk to anyone at the strip? Did they say anything along the lines of "damn that strip was sticky" or "I couldn't get NOTHING for traction tonight"?

Did you warm your tires? I don't like to do burnouts, dry or wet, as my tires are not cheap. So, instead, I do several runs in a row then I count the last one as your tires heat up with multiple quick successive runs. Burnouts work well, but are not cheap in the long run.

Short version, I can get 2.25 in my 6mt all day long from a street start position (left foot on clutch, right foot on brake), so you should be able to get way better from an "X"

On the bright side, 14.8 is a pretty damn good time for an "x" from the little I have read. If you can get down to a 1.9 60' (hot sticky street tires), you are good for a 14 flat 1/4 time.

weather was 55 degrees, no burn out, nothing take'n out of car to make lighter. .car is bone stock except for stillen filter. some guy told be i was spinning off the line, is that possible with "X"? these are the all season skinny's. so they do kind of suck at the track..but heres a video of one of the runs, sorry poor quality camera, will film it next week with a better camera .

My sig time (14.50 w/ 2.11 60') was only with a K&N and a z-tube on stock Turanzas. You should be able to launch harder.

I've run in snow mode (50:50 front/rear) but it was identical to normal. If you are having traction problems, try this once.

After the launch, your car will be in RWD mode. I have seen the slip light on the 1-2 and the 2-3 depending on track prep.

are you shifting in to 4th at the end or do ride out 3rd gear? going to experiment with going in to 4th to see if that helps this friday.
what rpm do you launch at, because when i launch hard it gave me a slower time.my best time was just mashing the gas off the line with our TQ'n may be if i unplug the ABS from under the hood would help it launch. a dam audi S4 got a 1.6 60' time . i just want to get mine down to 2 flat.

Do not shift into 4th, rev it all the way out in 3rd gear!

I bang off the limiter if I don't upshift. I believe the "X" cars may be geared a bit steeper than the RWD 5at's.

I think without shifting (TS ECU 7100rpm fuel cut) I could pull a 14.2.

There's a thread on My350Z about the torque management on the 5at 350 z's. They recommend pulling the brake light fuse to prevent the power cut when the brake and gas are depressed simultaneously (Brake torquing)

Yea I think the G35x has lower gearing for the rear end, tranny gearing is the same. Your MPH would definately be higher if you didn't have to shift into 4th.

the "X" does come with 3.5 rear end.. i hold it in 3rd but i bounce off the limiter at the very end.

killer lexus,
sounds like you are doing everything right. Just need to practice. try pulling the brakelight fuse, that mad a difference for me (even though I am 6mt)

Last auto nissan I owned required a one-two onthe gas pedal to get the best launch

on the the first yellow, I would tap the gas just enough to get the revs above 1000, then on the last yellow hit the gas hard while the rpms are still elevated some. that yielded the best launch in my 02 altima. the ecu's have similar logic I assume (both made by nissan).

again, though, it looks like you are doing everythingright, just experiment.

Last week in an industrial park, I experimented with try pulling the brake fuse. From the seat of the pants, there's absolutely no difference in the way the car launches. It's the same old 5AT launch. It launches hard for 10', then lays down till 3500rpms, and then starts to haul butt. If we could get rid of the 5AT bog in 1st gear, these 5ATs would easily be .2-.3 quicker in the 1/4 mile.

BTW, there's no way the G35 5ATs will go 2.0 60 foots in stock form. There's just too much bog (aka Nissan Nanny). I've done high 2.1s and low 2.2s easily. At the strip, the car won't even bark a tire. I've launched off idle (2.3 60'), powerbrake (2.2s), and a quick flash stall (high 2.1). In cooler weather, I'm sure I could get mid 2.1s, but a lower 2.0s is a total stretch for a 5AT. You can totally feel the boggy first gear lag holding the car back. For whatever reason, Nissan made the 350Z 5ATs launch much harder than the Gs. 1.9-2.0 60 foots with the 5AT 350Z are pretty common.

Do the 350Z 5A cars have the same torque management in 1st gear?

even with "X" the 60' cant be lower? i hate that bog in the beginning of the launch. everyone says why dont you punch it off the line, i say " I AM" but the car doesntwant to launch hard. from a roll the car haul ***, but from a stop. it sucks! i thought having the "X" would let me launch hard with out smoking my tire like a EVO or AUDI.
