Reviving an old question....

First, YES, I searched.

I'd like opinions on the Z tube. Search shows that most agree that little, if any, have gained anything over the stock setup. But I'm still thinking about it, because it's only logical that the "baffles" on the stock unit would disrupt airflow.

Anyone think that this mod is actually worth it?

Secondly, are there ANY mods out there that gain more than just a few ponies, short of FI? Even the exhaust mods seem nominal compared to other cars I've modded.

Thanks for any help........

I put on a Z-Tube purely for the sound in the upper RPM's. I added the K&N because I always put a K&N in any car I own, never have to change it. As far as HP gains from this setup, my butt dyno could not tell the difference.

Yea, that seems to be the general consensus. I already have the K&N (haven't put it in yet).

Does the z-tube change the sound at lower rpms, or just higher.

Plenum spacer is a definite HP increase you can feel in a pre 2005 G35.
Z-tube is a must have....

There is plenty info on the ztube if you do a search. Basically, it does not cost much and I don't see it hurting hp so just give it a try if you are interested.

The Motordyne plenum spacer has been shown to gain 10 hp on 2003-2004s.
Some of the 2005 have shown little to no gains. The 2005 6MT does indeed have a different plenum design.

If you would take the time to read this thread, I started out by saying I already did a search.

I like the Z-tube mod and would highly recommend it.

There are mods available for our g's but they only effect limited gains in hp because our engines are so highly tuned from the factory. Plain as that.
You'll also note that some mods will gain you some hp, but will lose you torque (especially down low where it's important).

Other rides will respond so much more to similar mods because, from the factory, the engineers have left so much more potential in them by parts swap.
These 'good' parts are already on our engines making them very impressive performers from the factory.
There is more in the engine, but it's so much harder to find.

Enjoy C

z tube and k&n

I did the z tube and k&n together. The sound didn't start until 3000+ rpm. It's nice. As far as hp/performance gains, I'd say +5hp. Completely my opinion, but it sure didn't take away anything and it helps the engine to breathe easier. My favorite mods so far were the 1/2 mde spacer and coupe mid pipe. The sounds and performance are cool for not much $$. Good luck.

You could do all the mods you want other than FI and your not gonna get BIG gains in power without reprogramming your ecu because these higher performance parts are going to demand more from the engine. Look into the technosquare ECU to get the gains you want out of all your mods other than FI.

Hey, I remember you from Altimas.net, my name was JBL85. I had a 2.5 Altima, but either way, 2.5 or 3.5, putting in an intake into the Altima added a nice bit of power. The Z tube is not noticeable, however it seems the intake is pretty effecient stock. Exhaust is going to be a better upgrade for more power.

Hey Nikk6. Yea, I haven't been on Altimas.net in quite a while.

I'm sure I'll get the z tube for sound, if nothing else. Thanks.
