Best Mileage Yet

Just returned from a 1300 mile trip. Got almost 26mpg at an average speed of 70mph. On the down side.....a tractor trailer threw up a rock and cracked my windshield. It is about the size of a pencil eraser and has not yet begun to spread. It hit right behind the rear-view mirror. I may try to have it repaired instead of replacing the whole windshield.

Re: Best Mileage Yet

Mstil35, That's real good mileage for tat speed bro. The absolute best I could do on my Garnet Sedan with 5k on it was 28 mpg's but only at 60 mph. I'm sure at 70 it was less.
The tough part is having the self control enough to leave the gas pedal alone to get that kind of mileage!
Ups dude. That's one of the best I've heard for our cars.

Call your insurance company about that window chip.. most insurance companies will pay for a winshield chip repair with no cost to you (no deductible) -- as they'd prefer not to wait until they have to buy you a new windshield (minus your deductible).

Re: Best Mileage Yet

16000 miles, 11 weeks old, just got back from a 4200 mile road trip, average for entire trip was around 24.5 mpg. on the way back I drove much slower (around 80-85 mph ) and average 25-26 mpg.

on the way out i crossed NM, AL, and MS at triple digit speeds and still got about 22 mpg. TX I drove thru at 75 - 85 and got 25 mpg.

I filled up at about 3/4 tank a couple of times and found for one such short leg i got 28 mpg (mostly 70 mph driving)

return trip was with three children and about 400 lbs of "stuff"

way out was by myself

on a funnier note, i filled up at a gas station in LA in a bayou and there were so many bugs several got into my gas tank. May be that was the secret?

Re: Best Mileage Yet

first major road trip for me was last week, too Birmingham to New Orleans to Jaackson, MS to BHM

I averaged 26.6 on the way down at 78 mph
averaged 24.5 on the way home, somewhere north of 85 mph

All in all, I'm pretty happy with those numbers - the best my 2K Maxima 5 speed ever got was 26, and it had the VQ30
