Loose Rotor
Loose Rotor
Hi all:
About a month ago I hit the front drivers side of my G35 sedan into a curb pretty hard and I had the hub replaced on it. The dealership wanted me to replace the control arms, but I just havent saved up for it to get it done.
However, I've got another issue that has come up since I had the hub replaced. Actually right before I had the hub replaced. Whenever I braked, the front drivers side seemed to be a lot noisier than the passenger side. When I replaced the broken wheel I had noticed that the drivers side rotor seemed loose. But I didnt have anything to compare it to.
Today, I took off the passenger side wheel to look at the brake wear and before putting the wheel back on, I tried to shake the rotor and there was no budge. I did the same on the drivers side and the rotor pulls out and pushes in about 1/4-1/3 of a inch. I could not find any do it yourself articles on putting on a rotor and I cant seem to figure out if there are any screws that need to be tightened to make the rotor more secure. Or maybe I am just completely mistaken and thats just the way rotors are supposed to be...loosely on the wheel hub and in place with the brake calipers.
If anybody could recommend me some ideas on what to do, that would be great.
Thanks again.

PS By the loud noise in the braking, I mean, like a really bad rubbing sound, which is consistent like, everytime the brake pads meet a certain part of the rotor, it makes that sound. The sound was more prominent at braking from higher speeds and now is at all speeds, all in the matter of about 2 weeks.

First off most cars the rotor is held on by the caliper when the wheel is off and there can be a little movement (depending on model). When the wheel gets bolted on and the lugs are torque'd thats what holds the rotor in place with the hub. As for you noise, maybe your inside pad got messed up and some metal is rubbing on the rotor. Some times when you hear noise from the brakes its not even the brakes. So maybe something more serious happened when you hit the curb.
