Way too many stupid errors like telling me to get off at a certain exit and when I get to the exit it tells me to proceed to another exit which I know is wrong. Another favorite error is I follow the directions and all of a sudden the system is recalculating another route like I made an error. I have put in a street name that the system did not recognize yet as I followed the map screen the street was on the map. I realize that the system cannot be perfect yet it seems that I have way too many errors for this to be normal. I am hoping it is my software and I will ask the dealer to either upgrade or reinstall. Has anyone else had similar problems with their navi. Mine is an 05 model.

I've had some issue w/the Navi from time-to-time, and the dealer has offered to replace the 2004 disk w/a 2005 disk, so we'll see if this makes a difference. I did notice that in the M45 that I was driving for a test, that the Navi did look a little different in terms of interface/graphics - on the better side. Not sure if the accuracy issues were fixed thought.

 

I wasn't able to test the accuracy, but it didn't take me more than 5 minutes playing with the nav at the dealer to say, no thanks.

I'm used to the nav in my wifes 05 Honda, which is rated as the best nav out there, bar none (which is true). From the touch screen, to the voice command, etc.

Infinity's system needs lots of work to compete, for sure.

 

I don't own a Nav and I wasn't going to pay $2,000 bucks for something that I can only use in 1 car. Iinstead I spent $400 and change for Dell Axim with GPS. Running on Iguidance software (or which ever other one I choose) and it's right on the dot with accuracy. On top of that, I also use it on my other car and well as rental cars.

 

Same issue here with the navigation system. I made sure I got it with Infiniti because they have the BirdsEye View where you can see streets ahead as you are approaching them. As it would happen to be, this is the only thing that ends up saving the navigation system from being a total loss. There is a very noticeable lag in response time that I didn't experience with our '04 Accord (Alpine) but the Infiniti definitely has it (Navteq I think). It will let me pass a street and then it tells me to make the turn. Also, the worst thing about the navigation system is that it takes the LONGEST possible route all the time and yes, I did set it to shortest distance and tried shortest time as well. For all prospective G35 owners, I would HIGHLY recommend going aftermarket if you actually plan to use it more than a couple times a year over the stock navi. If only I had read mikeee2's post a months ago I could have saved $1800 on the car!

 

For portable units, look at the TomTom. After having both the Magellan and Garmin counterparts, the TomTom is awesome. The Infinity salespeople were drooling over it's screen, and it has touchscreen, 3D view, etc. Highly recommended.

 

Right now I feel like I'm going SueSue so maybe I should have gone TomTom instead.

Yikes, I've had 3 Navis now and been very happy with them all.
Sounds like yours needs a diagnostic and an adjustment.

What could you ask the dealer to do?

 

Same as GSM. Maybe you need to calibrate your navs (D/N and MAP buttons held simultaneously, run diagnostic). Sometimes on new systems, the Nav will think you're 10 feet farther ahead of where you are, etc. and that's where the diagnostic comes in. Tell it that you are being told to turn too late, and it readjusts from that point on.

Mine's been spot-on since day one, and if I need a nav system in another car, I just break out the cell phone with Garmin on it THAT's free, and thus totally worth it.

Or the Lowrance Iway500. It's way better than the OEM unit. Plus it's only $600.

 

I don't get it... I held the map and destination button down and it did nothing...

 

D/N, as in Day/Night. Turn the car all the way off, hold them down, then turn on the car. Keep holding them down until the diagnostic screen shows up.
