Help negotiating a price

I've noticed that the concensus here on the forum is that I shouldn't pay more than $500 over invoice. I'm ordering a basic model, either the base model with Leather and Auto or one with a Sunroof and Bose.

Are there any other vaild dealer costs besides Invoice and Destination charge?

I'm assuming that the suggestion is that I don't pay more than Invoice+Destination+$500.

Is this correct.

Thanks for any help in this. I'm planning to purchase the car this weekend.

Re: Help negotiating a price

Hi,

I just bought one equipped basically as you described. I was unable to get a dealer in NJ to meet the "$500 over invoice" price on the sedan; we got it for about $650 over invoice at $30,123, leather, Bose, sunroof, splashguards, & XM. Where are you, anyway? Markets certainly make a difference; the Gs are popular around here which makes it tougher to negotiate!; good luck!

Re: Help negotiating a price

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't mind $650 over cost.

I'm in Long Island, New York. Was that $650 over Invoice+Destination or were there any other dealer costs?

Thanks again.

Re: Help negotiating a price

That price in my prior post included the destination charge, the only extra charge from the dealer. BUT, there is a hefty dealer holdback of over $800, $$ the dealer gets on a quarterly basis based on sales.

I have attached a document that was extremely helpful in my negotiations; its annotated from a $15 report from Consumer Reports. On it I have listed all the holdbacks and the option prices: invoice vs MSRP. I pulled it out at the beginning of the price negotiation and it it cut through a lot of the BS to "get down to business."

Let me know how it goes for you!
