The reality is that the Skyline/G35 has been out in Japan for a year longer than it has here. It's time for the car to get a redesign and they basically have to to keep it competitive.

One thing I am sure about, that is I would keep my G35 sedan for a long time, even after the new one debut. But if it is very very good, then I might persuade my parents to trade their 01 Acura 3.2CL for it haha, if not BMW 550i.

From what I've heard, the '07 model will just be a refresh, or a re-skin. The complete redesign shouldn't be until '09. I think that was from Motor Trend.

its going to be complete redesign, the current model is close to 6 years old. which is way past the standard 4/5 year re-model for Japanese cars.

History of V35 model:

Initial design started in late 90's

January 2000: Detroit International Autoshow: Infiniti XVL Concept. Concept was 85%-90% identical to production G35 2 years later.

March 2002: G35 Sedan was introduced as a 2003 model

April 2002: NYIAS G35C Concept shown. Vehicle 90% identical to production.

October 2002: G35C Debuts

It's been 3.5 years since the G35 was sold in the US. The current generation V35 will not last much longer, a year tops.

I figured a redesign was right around the corner when I bought my '06 a few weeks ago, but not this soon. I was thinking early 2007 as an '08. Regardless, this is (hopefully) great news for Infiniti as I'm assuming the company has some great things up its sleeve that will push the G35 back to the top of the comparisons and hopefully add to the auto company's momentum of reaching higher levels of refinement, luxury, sport and quality.

Things I think we can expect:
  • HP bump
  • New dash and controls similar to M (i.e. easier to use)
  • Navigation (if equipped)/Radio/Climate/Phone/Maitainance/Info integrated into standard central display
  • Rear camera
  • Projector, swiveling xenons
  • Ventilated or cooled seats (vented preferred)
  • Rear power window shade
  • Reach-over door handles similar to M
  • More aggressive grille (hopefully with those bump thingies [yes, I know, very descriptive] which make it more interesting, IMO)
  • Auxiliary input
  • Some surprises that we'll soon not be able to live without

Things I'm not sure about but think we should expect:
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Audible park assist system
  • Intelligent key availability on all models regardless of transmission
  • More advanced navigation system
  • More airbags/safety features

+1 here, not at all out of date, the '05 refresh was nice!

Well hopefully Nissan/Infiniti is working to make the next gen g35 even hotter than it already is, I am not really surprised that the next gen is coming out this soon, it was to be expected, due to the competition, and the fact that the g is aging, although very well, it was time. We can only wait and see, I am pretty sure that the next gen g should be well into the 300+ hp area. Can't wait to see the redesign and new specs.

Even as an 05 owner, I can't wait to see what "the next level" looks like. I'll be driving this car for probably another 5 years, but it's nice to see infiniti raising the bar yet again. Is it too ambitious to start dreaming of a G45 coupe or sedan?

I think even if its an 07 it would be like a march of 07 release, so we have a good 1.5 yrs togo..so according to that it would have been 5 yrs of G being sold in the US..i guess...

i want to see one too..i hope they correct the inferior quality mechanics in this car..other than just better the design, power and GAS MILEAGE plz...i hope nissan is listening

we need M styling...M interior styling..more power, better quality in the mechanics and a much better engine..which delivers power along with good gas mileage..its a shame that my vette gives 1.5 times better gas mileage when driven same..and has more than 1.5 time the power alone..

You would think there would be spy pics if the car is to debut in April. I hope to see HP around 320 and they dump the orange dashlights. At least I'll get to drive one when I drop off my 05 for service.
