Maybe some of you other Norcal Gs can help me out, I am planning on going up to Tahoe around christmas time to go snowboarding. Is it safe to take the G? How does it handle? Do I need chains or would it be okay without them?
BTW im going to Donner Ski Ranch (normally would go to Sierra, but im going with a lot of beginners)

Thanks in advance guys, any advice would help.

if your talking x model it will be ok but those stock tires are not that great in the snow. RWD...you better get some winter shoes... The difference is night and day.

If you have all seasons and the X no problem. If you have all seasons without the X just be careful, maybe put some weight in the trunk and you should be OK. If you have summer performance tires, don't even think about it- you will not be able to drive without putting yourself in serious risk.

I drove up Highway 50 to Tahoe during a snowstorm at night with my Eagle GSD's (summer tires) and chains. It was one of the slowest and scariest drives of my life. I DO NOT recommend it.
If the road is clear of snow or you have an X or snow tires you should be ok.

I would have thought that any tire with chains would be great.

yea, my tires are just stock. Just RDW. Have any of u used chains? Manual says two chians for rear tires only, but it just says it can be used and must be used carefully. Have any of you tried driving wit chains? I am too broke to get snow tires, heh.

Even with chains it was scarier than sh*t. Especially the steep downgrade going into Tahoe Basin. The front would start to slide in the slightest turn. I kept picturing my G noseing into a snowbank and getting stuck or sliding into the car in front of me. It was one of the few times I wished I was still in my civic. (FWD is better in the snow)
