We had a dusting (.5 in.) of the slippery powdery stuff in the Chicago area today. The G with the M3's didn't slip one bit, and I felt way more secure in this car than my '03 Accord. I really didn't try to make it slide around just normal traffic driving, I was amazed. Even the hill didn't cause me to see the slip light. Now I have to figure out how to wash her when it's < 25 outside

If you don't mind posting what you paid for and what kind of tires that would be great!

Let me tell you I am glad my car is not lowered. I went to Oregon for T-day and had an unplanned trip to Portland to visit my ill Grandmother. On the way back I bought some chains and I sure used them. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have made it over Mt. Hood during the blizzard. Chains are a pita to get on this car- not a whole lot of room to work in. Then two days later I drove back to California and had the chains on in a blizzard for 150 miles. Never slipped or spun out but sure had a lot of problems with me defrost and wipers. I had my wife and two boys with me and we made it ok.

Anybody out there drive their G in Chicago's snow tonight? I did, and I must say it did awesome, VDC kicked in whenever it went sideways. Very much felt in control tonight.

I drove home through the Chitown snow today. Everything was great on my stock all seasons....that is till i got home to my garage entrance (ie ramp to 2nd floor of parking stucture). Tried unsuccessfully to go in head first. eventually ended up crawling in reverse with VDC on (to save rubber). Took about 15 min total to go up that ramp.

Need to get sand bags for the trunk. Think i will stock up on cat litter for the next 6 months.

Also, wanted to thank the fellow chicago loop resident/work that help me tryed to "push" the car. Not very common round here.

Yep, I was going up all kinds of hills, sometimes stopped just at the crest and VDC barley budged. Only time it really kicked in was going around corners when giving a little to much gas. The car felt like it was telling me "ahh, you can't do that now, try again later"

yes, there was like 2-3 inches and I went to test how the car drove in the snow.

Even with the stock Turenzas I could manage driving 25 mph + around S turns and such.

No loss of control, rear end never kicked out... it was like drifting kinda.

VDC + traction control + Speed sensors + yaw sensors + gyro sensors = WIN

I was really worried about how this RWD and ELSD car would handle chicago snows.

I am impressed.

My car was in for service and kept overnight, so I didn't get a chance to try out my RWD with snow tires, but I did have an 04 G35x loaner. I gotta give that car credit. It made driving through that snow storm a breeze. Turning was easy, acceleration was good, and it only slipped when...I gave it a nudge with the accelerator That "snow mode" really is exceptional!!! And all this was on crappy Goodyear Eagle RS-As!

Oh yeah, that storm was really bad. I got very familiar with that loaner! 3 hours to get home...total of 15 local miles driven!!!!

Saw a couple of cars stuck in the snow. A Corvette and, worst of all, a beautiful M35 with the 19s. I felt sorry for the car...I swore he was going to wreck it!

It was 2.5 for me and I drove 25 miles! I saw a 350Z and a Porsche driving in that crap, and it didn't look like they had snow tires either. Wonder how far they got?

Ok, I drove in some serious snow yesterday. All I have to say is that I miss four wheel drive. I thought that after buying the M3's that my car would be fine, not the case. I needed 2 guys to push my car out of the parking lot after work, the VDC kicks in way too much. As soon as the tires start to spin the VDC cuts all power and you will move no where. I had to turn The VDC switch off to move. We got 15" of snow, but the roads had anywhere from 4 to 7 inchs of snow. I drove in about 3 inchs a few weeks ago and the car was fine, but that would be the maximum I would feel comfortable driving in.

I lived through the big Chicago snow of '05. I had to take my daughter to guitar lessons and it took 35 minutes to drive through the snow for 3 miles through the city. Travel times were up to 5 hours commute. We got 11" of snow and it was awful. I saw quite a few front-drive cars sliding around and my GF thought her Jetta was going to drive off the road at some point. The Accord in front of me was all over the road, as were many cars - many FWD.

I stopped by Home Depot on the way home and everything was good after dropping 200 lbs of salt in the trunk - until I got stuck in the alley when I was driving to the parking spot. You really can't get through that much snow with anything but an AWD.
