March Sports Car International sedan comparison ranked the G35 (unrefined, unsettled ride) a distant last compared to the IS350 (fastest, best quality, but numb), the Merc C350 (great new engine) and you guessed it, the winner - the BMW 330i (harsh ride, best driver appeal).
Can't wait for the April reveal of the 07 G35. Hopefully it will knock their socks off.

Whatever. The G35 sedan is still one the best cars you can buy IMO. I'm guessing the reason it was last is because it's the oldest model. I bet that once the new version is out and they do the test again it will be #1. I wouldn't feel too inadequate. The 330i costs way to much for the same stuff that's in the G and it looks not even half as good. Not sure about the pricing on the Lexus but I think it looks terrible. The G is definitely better than the Lexus or BMW. You got good performance and luxury for a quite nice price.

All of those cars cost 8-15 thousand more. If the G35 was the same price, Infiniti could do a lot of changes to the interior for that extra amount of money.

I think it's also because the G35 looks older...on the interior mind you. I still love its looks! Those others have just had recent refreshes. Even though, I couldn't be happier with my G. Actually, I'm $10K happier! The G could stay the same...all it needs to top the others is a nicer, more up to date interior similar to the M's interior.

Yeah they say that because the G has stayed the same since late 2002. There are only some minor changes, but in 2003 we got car of the year.

Hmmn wonder what the results would have been if Infiniti had signed a large advertising contract with the magazine. I would think that this would probably occur with the onset of semething new in a car's lineup-ie new engine or overall new design to get the word out. Since the Infiniti G 35 is not new,and the Lexus has a new design and the BMW and Mercedes have new engines guess who is probably (I'm guessing here) prime for advertising space. I always take what the mags so with a grain of salt because they are biased-biased by advertising dollars.
Road and Track just did a test of 7 AWD cars and the G35x was 6th too. It happens - in the AWD it was the only car model that was more than a year old, and it's almost 4 years old. This time next year when the G is a new model and all the other models are in their 2nd and 3rd year the results will be different. The industry is cyclical.

the AWD is pumping out less horsepower than the coupe and has smaller brakes. also, the seats aren't as bolstered. i wasn't terribly impressed with its all around build as a premium "luxury" sedan, but i felt that it was a step up from say, a WRX or maxima. it definately feels different than the coupe with sport suspension. performance wise, i don't see why it can't keep up with an audi spec wise, but the uplevel 3 series might be too much for it in terms of overall balance and "driver feel" as they say <shrugs>. of course this was my experience from a loaner sedan issued to me by the dealer. it's probably been beat up. i like the sedan though. with the aero package it's really sharp. i had to think long and hard before deciding on the coupe. i'm coming from a maxima, so i decided on the sportier 2 door. you're only young once, then you buy a porsche. no matter what you can always think, the infiniti always scores high when it comes to acceleration

The competition is so close that you could rank the cars in any order depending on how you rate them. If it's all about numbers, performance, build quality, or road feel then other cars will beat the G35. I bought the G35 because has a nice balance of everything at a low price. What bugs me is that price is rarely discussed in these comparisons. I would love to own a 330i or IS350 but just cannot afford them. When Infiniti/Nissan roll out the next G35, I hope they don't get carried away and drive the price way up.

+1 on the G35 having a lot of "bang for the buck". But, even if the others were similarly priced, I would still go with the G. The G is the smallest I'd go in terms of size and spaciousness. The others are just way too small for my tastes. Granted, though, that new 330 does drive like a go-cart - great handling. I gotta give them that credit. The IS felt floaty.Originally Posted by jawjaw

Uh, no..the AWD is pumping out less horsepower than the coupe and has smaller brakes.
Horsepower is the same. 280 for a 5AT no matter how you slice it - coupe or sedan. It doesn't match up against the MT with 298, but that comparison doesn't hold water because it isn't available in the X. You can only compare apples to apples.
Brakes are the same size between the sedan and the coupe. 12.6"/12.1" ventilated discs with 4-wheel, 4-channel ABS.

Echo above - if I pay $45K for a car, I expect it to outperform and outclass a car that costs $33K. If it were a 'bang-for-the-buck' comparo, the G would win everytime.
Magazines have a hard-on for BMW. Personally, I think they are the most over rated (based on the asking price) car on the road. $45K for a 330i? For what?
If I had my choice today, I'd look hard at the IS350. it would be a stretch to pay over $40K for that car too, considering the interior room. It seats 4 like a kiddie-car - they'll fit, but they won't be happy.
