You need to visit the dealer ASAP.... The blinking light indicates that there's a problem in the system, and that it's disabled..

I had that about a month ago. Dealer just had to reset the light. They said it was fine.

Yes, hopefully it's just a 'fart' in the system...but it could be a real issue too, meaning no airbag protection.
Best get it checked soon.

I had that indicator after a service visit. I refused to drive my car home and insisted the dealer fix the problem. Unfortunately, it was late and all the techs were gone. I ended up leaving my car overnight. The next day I didn't even get an apology. I never went back to that dealership for service.

Blink blink blink

Same $hit is happening to me. Have an appointment to take it into the dealer tomorrow morning.

I am out of my warranty (71K) so its going to cost me a cool $140 just to have it looked at.

Good news (or at least an attempt at giving me some hope), the service rep said airbags are typically under a different warranty and the charge could possibly be waived if it is found to be still under warranty. Yeah, I know...may just be a "sales pitch" but what the hell.....taken her in.

Papa, Check your warranty book....some items are covered for a lot more than the basic 4 yr 60k....

Don't know about down there in the U.S., but up here in Canada the powertrain warranty is longer (72 months), the Supplemental Restraint System goes to 72 months, certain emmision parts go for 96 months, and Seat Belt warranty goes for 120 months.

Like I said, check it out. If you guys are covered like we are, then you may still have warranty on the SRS system.

I had the same problem took it in 4 times before they found out it was a fault air bag control module. Took them almost 3 weeks to get the part in. Had a loaner for 3 weeks b/c they didn't allow me to drive it with the airbag light flashing(safety precaution)

If you go to your local Autozone they will usually read the codes for nothing in the hope of selling you stuff. If it's just a glitch they'll clear it for nothing.

That's why I stopped going to that one service dept. They were more than willing to let me drive off with the air bag light blinking.

Actually, the two Autozones I go to won't touch anything dealing with an airbag with a ten foot poll. They'll check and clear engine lights, but the techs wouldn't help me when I had airbag problems with a previous car.

I guess it might vary from store to store?

First.....Colin. I extremely appreciate you taking the time to point this out to me (even via PM on top of that). It is people such as yourself that keep me coming to this site. Thank you!

Now, the issue at hand....because of Colin, I have now questioned the warranty for the SRS system.......so I called Infiniti direct. They said in the U.S. the SRS system is covered for 6yrs or 70,000. Before I called Infiniti, they said "you are only covered under the 4yr 60,000 mile warranty".....hmmm. So, I am going over to the dealer right now......to show them the REAL warranty (in your owners manual) and then talk to the service manager to see about giving me a break.....I mean.....I'm at 71k..thats pretty close.

Wish me luck. I will let you all know the outcome.

Giving this dealership the benefit of the doubt as they have given me good service in the past.

FREE OF CHARGE

I talked to the service manager, he said he would go ahead and cover it under warranty. Great news on a day that was filled with nothing but bad news for me (I survived another round of lay offs at Oracle...but all my team members got let go...I use to like working there when it was PeopleSoft)

Anyways, I will be taking my car back in on Tuesday to have the left airbag module replaced.

Infiniti of Pleasanton went from a good dealer to a great dealer in my book.

Thank you again Colin for looking out. You saved me $800+ bucks...I owe you!
