Replace radio w/all-in-one?

I have a 2005 G35x with XM. I've seen some incredible mods on here, one person replaced his radio with a unit that has a huge screen and I believe it is also a nav. Where can I go about buying a unit like this, and is it hard to install?

I don't know how you would change out the aluminum faceplate that covers the radio and temp controls, as it appears you would need a completely new faceplate as the upgraded radio is not hidden by the aluminum (as the current radio is partially obscured). Also, I was wondering how you would install the NAV portion of it - would I need an additional antenna on the top of my car along with my current XM?

Thanks.

You need to buy the Skyline dash kit and heater/air controls. I did the conversion on my car (see sedan gallery under ttrank). Grubbs performance in Texas keeps them in stock and for a good price.

The nav I have uses a small GPS antenna that I put over on the corner of my dash. It workg great. It does not need to go outside like the XM.

If you have any more questions let me know.

Installation

Your car is awesome, love the look. Was it hard for you to perform the installation? I can follow directions but I don't have any experience with modding a car.

Thanks again for the help.

grubbs infiniti sells the double din dash kit fairly cheap on their online site. i would recommend the eclipse or pioneer double din head unit w/ dvd/mp3/navi system for around $1300

Thank you very much. I like it more and more each day. I am actually installing a Stillen Stage 2 Supercharger this weekend. Sorry, I am so excited I have to tell everyone!!

Anyway, the install was not hard. It did take a lot of time because I am very **** about everything being perfect. You can find a DIY on this site to do the install; it helps a lot when taking apart the dash for the first time. You might be able to get the parts and just take them to the shop where you buy the stereo and have them do the install if you are not comfortable. I can try to give you some tips and more help if you decide to do it yourself. Just send me a PM.

The head units that have all the features you are looking for range between ~$1,200 and 3,000+. It all depends on what you are looking for. I got an unbelievable deal on my Eclipse AVN 5495 with the reverse camera and everything so I went with it. The system usually retails for like $3400 just for those two parts. I really like the hard drive based nav system, it is faster than the DVD based systems. I just went to CES last month and saw the new stuff coming out this year. I would definitely get one of the 2006 models because they have made some big improvements this year.

Happy shopping. Let me know if I can be of any more help. I have found so much good information on this site it would be nice if I could give some back.
