Replaced OEM pre-muffler/resonator *SOUND CLIPS*

I'm not sure what its called, because its either an oddly shaped resonator or a straight through muffler. I know its been discussed to death, but this is my first mod and I am really happy.

I wanted a coupe mid-pipe, but I didn't want to wait nor did I want to pay for shipping because the majority of the ones F/S are on both sides of the coast. I headed over to my exhaust shop this morning and specifically told him to install the smallest resonator or muffler he had in that location. He suggested a glasspack, which was just a generic 18" glasspack. $43 and 15 minutes later, he started up the car and the sound was suprising The exhaust was very bassy; I was standing directly behind. He gave it some revs, 100% satisfied. I weighed the factory unit, it came to about 22-23lbs (rsonator alone, not the tubing), I was told the aftermarket one felt like 5-6lbs. As I drove home, the sound became more noticable.

From idle, its very quiet, but you can hear a slightly low noise from the rear.
From idle-1,500rpm it has a very deep sound (no drone!!) that is very noticable inside and out when I had the window rolled down.
From 1,500-3,500rpm the sound gets softer (it just gets less bassy but there is a slightly growl to it, slightly lower in octave than the coupes exhaust growl)
From 3,500 to redline, the sound picks up considerably from the back, its just a nice howl along with the sound of the engine.

$43=very satisfied. NO rasp, NO drone, and it sounds like an agressively tuned OEM exhaust note.

*EDIT* my scale might be slightly off, I weighed it again after work and it seems to be 29lbs now.

Talking

Glass packs usually get louder with age. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is entirely a personal opinion, and up to you. You don`t have to please anyone else (except maybe the cops).

I sure hope so One thing I do notice is that the exhaust gets louder after about 5 minutes of running the car. Once the car is fully warmed, that internal flap does an amazing job of keeping the muffler quiet at idle inside the cabin, you'd never know until I accelerate, then the exhaust note is heard but never overpowering to a point of droning. Passing other cars in 2nd gear at 3,500rpm and reving it up and listening to the exhaust reflect off other cars is very sweet.

I think I can get sound clips up via my cell, I think it can record with sound.

SOUND CLIPS UP. It amazes me that a factory muffler sounds like it does. Most factory mufflers would make an ugly raspy or windy day air like noise or no change at all when you remove anything in the exhaust. A testiment IMHO of how much of a capacity our OEM muffler is capable of.

Please right-click save-as. Its a .AVI file but will play with Windows Media Player.

Your car sounds nice. I also have this mod done but used a 22" magnaflow muffler in place of the stock resenator. The pipe is just sitting in my garage if anyone wants it. PM me.

Thanks, how does the 22" magnaflow muffler sound in comparison to the 18" glasspack?
