HELP: Paint delamination not covered under warranty
This is an update of a previous post from early December.
Anyone Else Having Paint Delamination Yet
Well, I pointed the delaminating areas (there were three of them, one on the driver's door, two on the driver's side rear passenger door) which all are circular in nature and look like the skin of an orange to the service department where I take the car and after they had a "paint expert" examine the paint, supposedly under a magnifying glass, I am told that the areas of delamination are points of impact, either from eggs or snowballs or iceballs. Well the car hasn't been egged and to me it would seem that an iceball would leave a dent, which there are not any, and a snow ball does not have the density to crack through the clearcoat and crack the paint. So basically if I follow the Infiniti Paint Expert's logic, the G35 paint is crap and any bug that hits your car while you are driving could potentially cause your paint to crack in a circular pattern and the paint is not defective.
Maybe I am just a little over-reactive since this is the third time the car has been in for service, the previous two incidents covered under warranty (stereo head unit replacement and nonconforming door exterior trim piece on the driver's side rear door) and now they won't cover what seems to be, at least to me, and obvious defect in the paint.
Speaking of the replacement of the defective trim piece, it was on the same side of the car as the "impact points." Makes me wonder if the car was damaged in some way before they sold it to me.
Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Re: HELP: Paint delamination not covered under warranty
You are correct about the denting if hit by even a snow ball. I had 3 little dings from my son just opening his rear passenger door and very lightly hitting the "G". Had to use a professional dent remover to get them removed.
This car is very easily dented and chipped I think.

Re: HELP: Paint delamination not covered under warranty
I spoke with the general manager last night when I picked the car up and this morning and he told me that there was nothing they could do, but give me the number to comsumer affairs and try and work it out that way.
Will keep everyone posted on what happens next
So I spoke to Consumer Affairs who told me that the only thing they could do is call out one of there paint experts, which already happened and once the Infiniti paint expert made a determination, that was the final word.
The consumer affairs representative told me that I would get a call back after they contacted the dealership. We'll see what happens next.
Edited by blkdogs on 01/08/03 10:23 AM.
