I've read, and it makes sense, that the engine
cover on most cars, including the G35 looks pretty
but it traps heat in the engine.

Removing the engine cover supposedly allows the engine
to cool better, and again, i can believe that.

So who removes their engine cover for everyday driving, especially
now in the upcoming summer months??

 

From what ive seen most people just leave it on... i dont think your gonna notice a difference with it off... for the people who do have it off... its most likely because they have a plenum spacer which does not allow them to use the cover

 

I was having to remove/install the crawford plenum so until I get it installed it stays off. It's a hassle. One it's on, it won't fit anyway. Having the cover off also makes taking the oil dipstick ever so slightly easier.

 

I ordered a new engine cover due to installing my
MD Spacer.........that was a challange....didn't fit so
I ended up cutting the damn thing in half and painted
it the same color as my G.....not great but still looks
better than stock cover and yes less heat.

 

Thanks guys, I realize the cover looks better than
the ugly looking top of the engine by itself.
But considering it gets over 100 degrees where I live numerous times
during the summer, I figured anything that will help keep the engine cooler
while driving, and help cool it faster when I turn the engine off is a good
thing.
And who looks at a stock engine anyway....your service people and
they aren't impressed with an engine cover.
The only drawback of taking it off, is storing the d@mn thing in the garage!

 

I have had it off since I bought the G, had to installe the z tube and didnt feel like putting it back on. The engine temp seems to be a littel lower as opposed to leaving the cover on. I have had it off on my previus 03 AT G as well, I had the crawford pleum though.

 

i put the 350z engine cover on my engine to replace the big infiniti one. I did this because the 350z engine cover only covers half the engine so less heat and also my plenum spacer would fit the infiniti cover.
