07 G35 vs 330i from Winding Road
 

Just downloaded a new issue of Winding Road and thought I would share their take on the 07 G35. It's basically the same take as the other car mags. The closing statements are well said: "Money aside, the Infiniti is a piece of work. The BMW is a work of art." The only thing that caught my attention was the comments transmissions/clutch. They sound exactly like the ones in the 03-06's. I'm still confused on which front bumper is the sport, though.

If you notice most of these articles are kinda insulting Infiniti.

Why would they even compare the 330i with the 07 G35 sedan?

Shouldnt it be the 07 G35 sedan with the 07 335i?

It only makes sence as they are both next gen vehicles.

The photo of engine bay shows the current engine. I hate to see when "expert" car magazine screws up basic thing like this. Not much new photos or new things about new G35. Not a good review IMO.

+1 :rolleyes: as I read the article, I felt like I am reading a review on 330i :confused: instead of the G35. Also, if they tested the car in MA, why isn't there any pictures, those are all old debut pics.

Anyway, I can understand how people got brainwashed into thinking BMW is the best in this world, can't be beat.

Actually, if price is an object(And it always is!) then they should be comparing the BMW 325i to the 07 G35. Then there is no possible way you could say the BMW is the better car. The 325i wouldn’t beat the new G35 in a single category. It would probably still be more expensive also. The new 335i is a different story. That car will walk all over everything and it is not that much more than the 330i. I am not sure how any car maker will ever top the 335i. If I had $47 grand in my pocket that is the car I would buy. Since I only have $36 grand I will be purchasing the 07 or 08 G35.

infiniti will not beat bmw. period.
bmw has a feel that nissan wont duplicate- they feel their way is better.
the g outperforms the 330 and especially 325 in every way. it has a competitive interior with competitive refinement and overall better reliability. it has superior quality of service as well. it does all of the above in a car with more space for both people and cargo, at a price that's easily $5-10k less than the 3 series.

but it wont win because it doesnt feel like a bmw.

look at the C&D comparison. the bmw spun out in a brake test due to a faulty brake system (this could have killed someone had it been an emergency stop on a real road). the bmw also had other electronics problems. despite all of this, it still managed to win the comparison, beating the faster, more refined and reliable IS350 and older gen G.

it doesnt matter what nissan/toyota do, as long as they're doing their own thing they wont win. magazines cannot respect a $10k price difference (hint: we wont be seeing a comparo between the $50k 335xi and the $60k GT-R lol) and they cant respect the reliability and actual ownership qualities of the car.

imo thats ok though- let everyone buy bmws, itll keep the cost of the G down and less whored out.

They should compare to the 325i, and have; the G won. No, we probably won't see a 50k comparo of the 335i and the GT-R since the 335i doesn't cost 50k and the GT-R isn't going to cost 60k. The GT-R will likely msrp above 60k, whereas the 335i msrps at 40k.

We probably *will* see the 335i tested against the S4 though, which should be fun. If Infiniti decided to drop the 4.5L 8 in the G (which they could) and make it say, 340/300 and price it around 40k base *then* we would see it in a comparo with a 335i, but Infiniti won't do that, so go talk to them.

The magazine is a little different. They don't go into all the details of things you can read out of the sales brochure like trim levels and options. They concentrate on non-tangible things like driving feel and road manners. The pictures could of been better, though. It's free so can't expect everything.

I think it's fair to compare to the more expensive BMW because that is the benchmark. It's like a Corvette being compared to a Porsche 911. Using a 325 would make sense pricewise but it wouldn't be interesting since the 325 is not the enthusiast's car. They did mention the big price difference and that the BMW would win if price was no object. In the past, the price gap was largely ignored and not even used in the debate.

Isn't that what all the car mags do nowadays? Well, I guess they might
"talk" about the non-driving aspects of the car, but in the end, the one with the best "driving feel" wins, which invariably ends up being BMW.

Once the E90 335i (sedan) is out this fall, I think it would be the logical comparo choice.

If I was cross shopping, that's the car I'd look at since it replaces the 330i in the lineup.
I would not give up performance & shop down to the 325i (soon to be 328i)
What BMW has now done is given you a valued reason to spend the extra coin.

Infiniti will still be the value, bang for the buck car of choice....

^ well said. I feel the same about shooping down. They've answered the value question by raising the level of their game. It looks like Infiniti has done the same with the sedan and most likely with the new Coupe. Competition is a great thing.
