Really had been looking at a M35. Would have been a non-brainer if they had upgraded the engine this year with the new G engine but they didn't.
OK... new G35S looks pretty good. New engine, rosewood trim... What's that? No rosewood trim with the G35S?
OK... Guess I'll have to settle on the G35 non-sport.
Now I'm wondering if I should keep my 2003 G35 Sedan another year and wait and see if they put the new engine in the M35 next year.

LOL
, oh no(sarcasm).
That shouldn't be a deciding factor for general public, plus you can get custom trim if you really wanted to.
And no infiniti wont be losing money. r&d has has done enough research to know most people who want the M35 wont crossover to a G35 because of engine options.

Well put it this way, I wasn't able to order exactly the options that I wanted, yet I still placed my order. IMO, every automaker has these little "gotchas" when ordering.
Biggest complaint about the M35 is the engine is a little "weak" for the size of the car.
I think the new G35 will hurt sales of the M35 more than you think. The new G's interior is now much closer in quality to the M and the new G's sound system will almost surely be better.
The only real reason to go with the M once the 2007 G35 sedan is out will be a little more rear seat leg room.
I think Infiniti made a big mistake not putting the new engine in the M35.

ultimately people buy the M for its cabin space, which the G doesn't have. then ppl have to decide if they want to fork out for the v8. the avg consumer doesn't care so much about "knock you in the back of your seat" power....

I really don't think that the new G will take away from any M sales. These are two cars that target two different audiences. IMO, the M buyers are probably a little older in age than perspective G buyers and are a little less apt to worry about the 31 HP performance difference. This is just my general opinion and could very well be way off in my thinking.
I am sure they will redo the M35 engine sooner then later. Probabally the FX35 as well. Its probabally cheaper to do one engine for all then 2 versions.

I think the 2008 M will get the 330 hp 3.7L that's supposedly going in the 2008 G37 Coupe. They did trademark "M37" a few months back.
And the 2008 M will probably get a 400 hp 5.0L engine. They trademarked "M50" a few months back also.

I agree with the Op of this thread. I do think that the M35 engine is underpowered for a car of that size and price. If consumers are interested enough to research I think some of them would lean towards the G
