Checked out 2 G's
So far I've checked out two new G35's. Both were Sport models same options, Nav, Tech, Prem, etc. One was Blue Slate and the other Platinum Graphite which is the color I'm most interested in.
My first impression is it blows my 2003 away and I love my G. The new G is a home run.
First the Platinum Graphite wasn't as dark as I thought but then again it was in a showroom under very bright lights. See picture below but I really like the color. You can see some purple in it. It also had the Graphite interior I want. In fact this would be the exact G I would order.
I read where many of you got to drive these cars. It's interesting that both dealerships here in New England will not let you test drive them. In fact:
Dealership #1 won't even show the car until the 26th but will take people over to the service bay and look at it. Was told no test drives because Infiniti owns these cars and test drives are not allowed. When I told him other dealers were offering test drives he said those dealers would be in big trouble with Infiniti if they found out.....
Dealership #2 told me they have the car in the showroom but under cover and the public can not see the car until the 26th at the unveiling. However since I was very interested in buying this car they gave me a private showing just before closing. They said dealers have the option to buy these cars which makes sense since why would Infiniti want hundreds of these cars back?
Someone asked about the size of the airfilters since you now have two of them. First these have to be the most easy filters to change two clips and its out. You can do it blindfolded and in 5 seconds. The size I would say are about 60% of my 2003 air filter (see picture below)
Another comment is I'm kind of surprised they don't offer a heads up display option or remote start yet we have a laser cruise control?
The exhaust is not a true dual exhaust. It does go into a "Y" pipe.

platinum graphite is about 2 shades darker than the diamond graphite
remote start can be installed into the 2007 G b/c we do remote start installs on all M's all day long

That's Platinum Graphite!?
I thought it was going to be like the color Smoke they offer on the Altima. It looks more like the Precision Gray on the Maxima. I'm a little disappointed. I really like dark gray.
I still need to see it in person for final judgment, but after seeing these pics I'm leaning towards Blue Slate.

Yes I thought it would be darker. My first impression when they took the cover off was that it was gray. But the more I looked at it the more I liked it but again need to see it outside. The showroom lights were very bright and not natural.
If you like dark gray, and don't mind the subtle dark metallic blue under bright light, get the Slate Blue. I was literally on the lot checking it out after my test drive when the sky transitioned from sunny to overcast (and then back to sunny). The car turned from a deep dark blue to a deep dark gray right in front of my eyes!
Remote start is useless, but a HUD would be nice. I like that color, and I think it would look better if not under such bright, artificial light. I have no idea what color I would get if I were to get the new G35. Black is my favorite but after two black cars, the maintinence just isn't worth it. So Ivory Pearl with the graphite interior, Platinum Graphite with stone interior, or Slate Blue with stone interior. I like 'em all!

The Y pipe, which works well on several applications, utilizes a dual exhaust off the manifolds/headers and runs back a specified distance, then the two pipes enter the Y pipe and become one larger pipe. Having a Y setup helps each bank scavenge the other as the pulses travel down through the Y and are joined together into the single common tubing.
This creates a vacuum in the exhaust valve, resulting in a cleaner burn in the cylinder. A sound reduction is also achieved as the sound waves combine in the Y pipe. Also, having too much of a loss of backpressure can reduce the amount of torque the engine is capable of making. This is the reason it is not ideal to have no type of crossing-over after exiting the manifolds/headers.
I guess being an old Corvette man to me a true dual exhaust is just that, no intersection with the other.
But what you say makes sense. I don't mine the system the G has, it sounds good and I like the fact we have duals coming out the rear now.
