CF Slot

Has anyone heard/read what type of CF Card the CF slot will take? If it is a CF Type I slot, then it can't take a CF Type II card. Just curious as I would like a pick up a CF card soon.

Is anyone going to see/drive the car anytime soon? If so, bring with you a CF card and test it out. I don't have any. I plan to go see the car a second time just to try the bluetooth. My K750i's updated firmware somehow caused it to not work with the bluetooth in my friend's TL.

Yes, that does Ian. That is a CF Type I card (you can tell by the thickness). For anyone getting the new G, don't get a Type II card because of it won't fit.

Thanks Ian!

I'm pretty sure this has been asked.....(probably several times)

Can the CF slot be used to upload MP3 to the 9.3???
I assume it would, it'd be a real pain in the **** to have to rip from audio CDs every time you wanted a change.

Also, anyone know if there'd be any size format restrictions?
The type I is availble in much larger capacities than previous.

IIRC Audi owners ran into this issue.
I'll see if I can dig up some old threads... it may just be OFitis at work again

I have heard that you can and I have heard that you can't.

I'll just wait for mine to arrive and test it myself.

Mem cells fail me...
found out that they are SD format.
& 1G recommended by VAG, but they got 2G to work in FAT32.

How can you tell how thick it is by just looking at the picture? Is the CF 1 format better than the 2 or is it the other way around?

A CF Type I card is a couple of milimeters thinner than a CF Type II card.....that is really the only difference. A CF Type I card WILL fit into a CF Type II slot, but a CF Type II card WILL NOT fit into a CF Type I slot because of the thickness.

Other that the physical size and backward compatibility of the type II card, are there technical advantages like speed or maximum memory size that the II has over the one?

Never mind - I googled and found that other than the size they are identical.

Nope, no technical advantages whatsoever.

So I had my second test drive today at a diff dealership, and let me tell you, I've wet my pants yet again. Unfortunately, there's no owner's manual yet, but here's the pic I managed to take with my SE K750i 2mp cell phone camera:
