No split fold-down rear seats? That also sucks.

I purchased a computer desk today at staples. The only way that it fit in my car was though the trunk with the rear seats folded down. I wouldn't have been able to fit the box in the Infiniti even though it’s a bigger car. I was also able to get a 12'X12' rug into my car the same way. That is also impossible with the G. So much for practicality. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed but Fold-Down rear seats is an option worth having IMO. What else is the 07 G35 missing? Any Idea why the G35 doesn’t have Fold-Down rear seats? The IS350 also doesn't have fold down rear seats.

I can read the replies now; “Go buy an SUV or pickup truck”, “Get another car”, “Infiniti doesn’t want you as a customer anyway”. That all fine but it still doesn’t take away the fact the G35 is missing several key options in regards to the competition. I guess that's why the G is much cheaper. That and the German cars being overpriced.

I agree, the fold-down is a convenience (I have it on my current Civic) and I've used it to move my computer desk when I finished college. The most likely reason the G doesnt have it is for structural rigidity. When you don't have to leave the space behind the rear seat open, you can place more metal there to strengthen the car. I would like to have the fold-down, but if it means a lower driving value of the car (more body roll/lean), then there's no way I would accept it. I'm buying the G35 as a driver's car...so I want the performance...if that means having to forego the fold-down, then I'm willing to accept that. Others may not, which is why you see comments like "buy XXX car instead" because it seems the feature priorities you have is not in line w/ others on this board.

Also, I would say the G35 is missing very few if any options when compared on a price point to "competitors". Others like the 3-series and IS may have some additional options, but those cars also start at a much higher price.

I heard the same thing in regards structural rigidity. But How do you suppose BMW/MB and Audi get away with Fold Down rear-seats? And as we all know those cars are as solid as a rock.

Its only an option in BMW -- I don't have any statistics on what % of the cars sold have this option. Maybe that's why ?? *dunno*

MB and being solid as a rock - oh well maybe I live in a different world

Point being, like others have said, most of us are quite ready to accept this tradeoff if it means a more rigid body.
If a folding seat is something that you must absolutely have (for whatever reason), then the decision is actually easy for you

Audi has the option too as well as Volvo. What I dont understand is that BMW can build a rigid car with the folding rear-seats. Why cant Infiniti? Sounds like a cop-out to me.
