Right - that's what I said .... the effect on the steering wheel is present as "std eqpt"

4WS is an option that I don't fancy either.

All I'm saying is that the variable assist steering is std. (which is NOT the same as 4WS)

Damn - Infiniti's option names are pretty confusing !!!

EDIT: Maybe you are right -- 4 wheel active steer is what gives you both the variable ratio steering and the rear wheels that turn - hence 4 wheel !!!

I need to find out what kind of a steering is provided as std -- is it variable assist or not.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out. Don't believe it had active steering. The steering did have some level of variable assist though.

Deane, I had exactly the same feeling with the car I took out concerning the steering. I mentioned it earlier to Ian in a PM. The car I tested was a base G35X and I was putting it through it's paces on some turns in the rain. When in the turns I noted that the steering stiffened up somewhat as I would go into a turn. It was definitely different than my 05 G35X, I liked the way the steering felt, it wasn't too stiff, just felt controlled and predictable. When I read your post it sounded the very same and this car did not have active steer since it was a base G35X.

The feel and cornering capability of old (2002.5) standard non-sport package car was totally transfomed with 225 high performace tires, hanging on way longer and more surely despite leaning and bobbing with the road surface affecting everything I havent really pushed it yet after a day and ahalf, bu my new S is structurally much stiffer, more responsive with higher side loading and no lean. I think the staggered 18 inch hi qual rubber affects the feel as the cornering speed goes up. It always did on my 911. (My G does not have active steering. My ol 911 could use it - I have the rear toe set out to keep everything right under load at a bit of cost in tire wear).

Makes sense we were both noticing the same thing. I didn't really push the car too hard on my test drive. It only had 110km at the end of my test drive.

The salesman lives around the corner from me and suggested I pick it up for a day from his house once it gets a few miles on it.
